A New Streaming Service Review

So I signed up for a 7 day free trial of the new streaming service, Discovery+. First, it was a heck of a problem to download. It required getting my friend who heads up the IT department at a local college! It took him 45 minutes to get it working on my laptop. It might have been easier on an Apple product, who knows.
I watched two original shows made specifically for the new service, "Frozen in Time", and " American Detective". I really enjoyed both as different as they are. Frozen in Time stars Maureen McCormick (Marcia on The Brady Bunch) and designer Dan Vickery redesign houses stuck in the 50s and 60s. They keep to the same time period, they just upgrade the look.
"American Detective" with Lt. Joe Kenda covers cases that stick with certain detectives across the United States while Lt. Joe Kenda narrates the series. You may remember him from his old show on the cable channel, Investigation Discovery.
Discovery+ covers the channels of Food Network, OWN, HGTV, Discovery, DYI, Investigation Discovery, TLC, Animal Planet, and more. So they have every season of shows like Worst Cooks in America, Love it or List It, 90 Day Fiance, Flip or Flop, and so on. No, I haven't watched all these shows! It's funny watching the first seasons of some of these shows and seeing how young these people look compared to the seasons currently airing.
It costs $4.99 with commercials, and $6.99 without commercials. I went for the cheaper option, and I'm glad I did. The commercials are so few, and so short, I don't mind them. So I'm keeping the service.
Is it available to you? Do you watch any of these shows or channels?

I am not sure if we have it available, but we do not stream anything, except what is on Prime. It sounds like a bargain, though, so enjoy.

I've considered it but I think with the exception of DYI I can get most of these channels with my cable service.
I'm glad you're enjoying it though.

I get all the channels too, but the streaming service has shows the regular channels don't. One thing about the DIY network, which you probably already know, is that it is being renamed The Magnolia Network, Chip and Joanna Gaines' new channel. The streaming service is already airing those new shows, but not all.
Honestly, and it probably doesn't reflect well on me, when I see those early seasons of current shows, I can't help but think how old the people look now!

@ScribbledAdNauseum Oh yes, I heard about that. It shows everyone except the guy who played Screech. You're not alone in feeling old!

@AmbiePam I might try it for the seven day free trial. I don't do a lot of tv watching but I love shows where I'm learning something.
I was on peacock the other night and there was some sort of commercial or something for Saved By The Bell but it was a new show or movie. I groaned because it really shows how old I am.

I was wondering about this service since I watch a lot of the shows you have listed. I don't like commercials; but how often do they show them? I wonder why it was so hard to set up? Maybe I will try the 7-day free trial. Thanks for the review!

@LindaOHio To my knowledge it's not on Roku yet, but it's only a matter of time. I don't watch HaBO Max, but I know it just appeared on Roku. Discovery Plus can't be far behind.

@LindaOHio I just found out if you know how, you can add Discovery Plus through the app on your Roku. I don't know how to do that, but hopefully you do!

@AmbiePam Do you have to watch it on your computer? You can't stream it with Roku?

Fascinating. At first I thought you said Disney + I'm curious about that one. This sounds good too. I wonder if my mom would like it, she likes a lot of the TLC shows. Sounds like it's well worth the money.

They have a lot of offshoots on TLC shows. Like go behind the scenes on 90 Day Fiance, or Dr. Pimple Popper, and so on. I got sucked into HGTV behind the scenes, and went down a rabbit hole! I learned way too much about the personal lives of these people.

I am glad you are enjoying the new service. The last time I tried something new was Hulu, and the formatting didn't seem right for my screen. I opted not to keep it after the free trial.

It is but I am not interested in it at the moment. I already have Netflix, Prime, Acorn and Britbox. It just gets to be too much,

It sounds like you've found a really good service with this one.
My hubby was talking about a new free service that he wants to research a bit more this weekend and maybe download that onto the television. I think that we have enough between Bell, youtube and Tubi, but there are times when we both will remark that there isn't anything on tv to watch.

I don't know about this service. I just watched things online and in videos and DVDs I have seen some episodes of Animal Planet and enjoyed them

I've seen this advertized but I doubt I'll pay for the streaming. I do like 90 day finance, love it or list it, and flip or flop but so far I have those shows on my cable channels.
Hope you enjoy the Discovery +

I can't get streaming on my TV is smart enough but I don't pay for service. Instead we have raku and Netflix amount with channels that come with the raku remote.
I can get streaming on my phone but we're trying not to get anything extra until we get more bills paid early.
