Driving in the snow

Good day friends
Many of you already know that we have had snow here for days, it has stayed a long time because the temperature is below 0. My son went to the city with his girlfriend at 1 pm and he is still gone, and now it is 6 pm. It wouldn't be a problem if I didn't see now that the snow was attacking further, and my car is very old, and the tires aren't the best. He is still not an experienced enough driver and when the weather is like this my fear is heightened.
Are you a driver? Are you afraid to drive in the snow?

@Nevena83 For now, only the main roads are being cleaned, these side streets are not being cleaned yet. I have no problem for now, just until I get out of the settlement. Is this a photo of where you actually go every day?

I don't know what it's like to drive in the snow, as I live in a tropical climate. But I'm a pretty good driver, so maybe I could handle it.

@Nevena83 You wouldn't envy me if you had to spend a summer here where I live. It's like living in Hell itself with the high heat and humidity we have. We get about 3 months of nice weather during the year, usually during the winter.
I envy you for living in a place where it snows!

@Nevena83 No. Generally you should not use brakes. But it depends on whether your car is front wheel drive or rear wheel drive. If you are driving a front wheel drive brakes help more because it shifts weight to the front where the driving and steering wheels are. Conversely, if you are driving a rear wheel drive, stepping on the gas is more effective because it transfers traction to the back, drive wheels. The whole thing is about putting traction to the wheels that propel the vehicle.
Front wheel drive use the brakes more to shift weight to the front and create traction. Rear wheel use the gas to drive weight to the back and create traction.

@porwest I did not know that. I used to hear that you should use gas, but I've always thought about how gas, when you lose control of the car, we reflexively apply the brake.
Two days ago, I saw a car trying to climb an icy road uphill and his car was coming back and then he turned the car around and went back up the hill in reverse.

I use to drive autos. I did drive in the snow in Metairie a long time ago. It was very scary driving in the snow since it seldom snows in south Louisiana.

I am not afraid to drive in snow. I grew up in snow country. I think I would have asked your son to be back before it gets dark. I don't blame you for being worried.

Is that picture of your area? If yes, that is a lot of snow. Your worries are natural. I have never driven in snow and only once in my lifetime have I visited a place with snow, and that too as a tourist.
I just hope things go fine for you.
