Once upon a time in late September

Once upon a time in late September,
I met this knight on horse, who was real sad.
It was cold and dark as I remember,
I asked him "Why?" He said: "I'm going mad".
"Step down your horse and tell me what is wrong,
I'll listen to your story my dear knight".
While he made camp, I made some coffee strong,
and we sat down at fire's flickering light.
He held his cup and gazed into the fire,
words came slowly when he began to speak,
"Ma'am, there is someone that I admire,
but every time we meet, my knees go weak.
Out my mouth comes nothing but a mumble
not like the tone in which I speak to you
It's like my body, to dust will crumble
I want it stopped, please tell me what to do"
I told him that he lacked of self esteem
That he should get a grip of his own mind
That his senses could be working like a team
and leave this insecurity behind
I told him he should speak like in a dream
because in dreams one can do anything
that he should kiss her under moonlight's beam
and bring a serenade if he could sing
He sighed and said "Sweet lady, you're too kind
not that your good advice I won't endorse
But love, in that case, would be really blind
The one that I admire………..is a horse"

I do love horses. Once we had the old type Austria Haflinger (draft horse). We bouht him when he was 17 years old. Worked with him to collect the hay bales, kids were riding him. When the kids left home and we stopped making hay bales ourselfs, we sold him. He got bored of only grazing the meadow and escaped too many times. Eventually he reached the age of 40 years.

@LowRiderX It depends on the breed and also what kind of heavy duty work they do. But 40 years certainly is very exceptional.
