Conspiracy Theories

I am getting all kinds of weird info about the COVID-19 and other subjects in social media. It worries me. I just got one from a family member that was a news story from Ireland saying that COVID-19 doesn't exist. It was on Rumble.com which is a video producer and not a news faction at all. I really think people need to check where they are getting their information from. Online any amount of hoaxes and "fake news" can be produced. I have spent hours sometimes checking what I am recieving. Especially when it is on a subject I care about. Whether believing or otherwise. I want to know what I am reading is real. What is your take on this issue?

Usually easy but for ones that I care about I do some checking. When family members are sending me weird stuff I begin to wonder.

@celticeagle Some of them may be under-educated and have a taste for the Koolade.

I do the same as you.
If I hear or get told something I check it out.
As a rule of thumb a fact needs to be confirmed by at least 3 reliable sources in addition to where I first read/heard it.
People these days are too stupid and lazy to check things and simply share which perpetuates the crap floating around on the internet.

I used to laugh about the more ignorant things people claimed were real. Now it feels like I spend more time verifying whether those things are real or fake that I have little or no time left for anything else. *sigh*

@popciclecold The newest reports on this that I could find are from the end of 2018 and the beginning of 2019. (The articles in 2019 were about court cases from the 2018 mail bombings.) Yes, I checked CNN's site.
One of the articles said the bombs were mailed to Trump... Uhm... no real loss if those were allowed to go through, in my opinion.

I have (had? Waiting for the most recent results) it, so it’s not fake. However, I don’t think it’s as prevalent as they’re saying. For instance, flu cases are next to zero right now, while COVID-19 cases are soaring. What, did we eradicate the flu virus?
I’ve reached the point where anyone who sends me something that says “the truth about.....” I delete it without even reading/watching it.

*sigh* I've been asking friends not to send me fake news. I get tired of seeing what they send me, checking it to see if it is from a reliable source and then telling them it is fake.
One friend on myLot writes the silliest things about Covid as if it were real news. I read his discussion starter and then go to real news sites and post a link for him to check out. I then ask him not to post random weird things unless he's checked them for veracity... *shake my head*
Yes, I believe in Covid 19. Yes, I believe it is killing people. Yes, I think conspiracy nuts are just that, nuts.
Right now, I am somewhat worried about news about the two vaccines that people are talking about. One article, from a verified site, states that the vaccine from Pfizer may cause problems with the human reproductive system. Not that it affects me, but still...

Good idea. We have to try to help our fellow man when we can.
Reproductive huh? Interesting. Sort of nerve-wracking when we had to hurry to get it going in arms.

@celticeagle Men are told to freeze their sperm as the vaccine 'may' stop them from producing viable sperm after the shots.
Another of the things the vaccine targets is a hormone that women produce when pregnant. An ex-Pfizer official has filed a protest with the board of health stating the vaccine needs more testing to verify whether the vaccine definitely will or will not stop a woman from carrying a child full term.
I am seriously wondering if we are going to see the end of humanity as we know it.

Rumble is nothing more than a platform. Who and what you watch is what matters. Just like news and others use youtube, television, radio or anywhere else. The platform itself isn't fake. That would be like saying myLot is fake. Do you find a lot of fake stuff on myLot? Yes, of course every single day.
In today's world for every resource or 'fact' you find saying one thing you find an equal number saying the opposite.

Oh, covid is real. The mother of one of my friends is in hospital with it and will likely die tomorow when they stop giving her oxygen at 9am.

I do believe people should double check things before sharing.
I notice that if something appeals to a belief a person already has (whether true or not) they are more likely to pass it on.

There is as much mis-information going around now, as there is true information. Even worse, many things are partially true, which makes it even more difficult to try and weed out the fake news.
Since all of our mainstream news media is owned by about six huge corporations, almost everything that comes from any form of mainstream news is going to conform to what the corporate giants want the reporters to say.
if you look on youtube, there are videos that show news reporters all saying almost the exact same thing, word for word. When that happens, you know that they are following instructions, and not just reporting news that they actually know the truth about.
Alternative media is not much better, and there is all kinds of misleading information from social media as well. I try to listen to everything, and then see what can be confirmed, and what doesn’t sound like it is just “hate news”.
What I mean by hate news, is reporting from news information that is totally against someone, and is only going to report bad things about them, regardless of the truth.

But the trick is to find one you trust, that sees things as you do.

@celticeagle , actually, I am not looking for a source that sees things like I see them, and supports my beliefs. What I want to know is what is the TRUTH, even if it the opposite of that I thought, or what I wanted it to be.
If we can’t open-mindedly look at all the facts, we can’t come to an accurate decision about what is the real truth or not. We must be willing to look beyond our beliefs about something.
If I want to know about a person, and I ask someone who hates that person, all I will hear is the bad things about the person, so I have to also listen to someone who likes the person , and then I have a better concept of what the person is truly like.
The same thing goes for the truth of the news we get.
