My Jade plants are throwing flowers!

I have had my jade plants for years. I think I harvested the initial "sprout" from a jade plant in Berkeley. For the first time in memory, they are throwing lovely small flowers. My "hypothesis" is that it's because of the recent rains, coupled with the even more recent unseasonably warm temperatures. Do you have plants blooming unexpectedly? Inquiring minds want to know.

I knew that some (probably all--we have to reproduce somehow) succulents do, and I THINK I've seen jade plants flower before, but never my own.

Maybe they weren’t mature enough to bloom until now. My nieces middle name and my husbands dogs name is Jade.

Jade? That's a pretty name! @Fleura implicitly suggested the same thing about age of the plant. I've had mine for several years now.

I don't think I've ever seen a jade plant in bloom. I have an African violet, several geraniums and a begonia currently in bloom. Everything else is resting now.

You have "real" Winters in Ohio. Actually, several years ago, I almost lost a jade plant when we had a freak (for this part of California) hard freeze for several days. I had to cut it all the way down, but it came back! It's the one in the picture.

It's really funny you should say that, but here there is a village facebook group. I'm not a member of FB (I can't agree to their Ts and Cs!) but it's a public group so I can read what's going on - usually complaints about parking and dog mess, and at the moment updates on the vaccination program. But yesterday somebody posted a photo of their flowering Jade plant with exactly the same question! I have a large Jade plant and it flowers fairly regularly. I think it might be age-related, because for years I didn't realise they did flower. Here they are kept as houseplants, so mine is not much influenced by climate change.

You mean to say it takes COVID-19 to perform that miracle on some of those jade plants? But I agree with you. May be they bloom late.

Very interesting! I know it rains a lot in the UK, but am I correct in believing that you don't often have hard freezes? I'm going to stick with my "perfect storm" hypothesis for now, but age could be a factor as well. I've had this thing for years. Maybe it's "reaching puberty."

I didn't know you could grow jade!!!! I thought you had to mine it or something. This changes everything. I wonder if diamonds can be grown, too. I am going to look into that because I want my garden to generate some income this year!

I have several succulents and sometimes they do bloom, but nothing as showy as your flowers. Those are lovely, pony. Nope. Nothing blooming right now. (I sent vanny a photo of my indoor plants. She complained because they weren't blooming. )

@DocAndersen I once had a friend who would come to my house. I have always had a large array of indoor plants. If/When she got too close to any of them they started wilting... I could baby those back to health after a few days but heaven help any plant she touched. Nothing I did would revive them. I firmly believe some people are natural plant killers.

I have a jade plant too which is at least over 50 years old. I got it last year. It's very rare that they get to blooming, you must've neglected it dearly, because succulents only bloom after a long period of drought. So you must have done something good.

But it seems like the opposite here. We had moderate temperatures here with lost of rain. Then suddenly we had several 71 F days (21 C?) . And they bloomed.

@TheHorse I'm not an expert on succulents but that's what I read when I searched them when I got mine. Your weather is quite different from my weather.
