Humility shown by highly successful people

I often wonder how come such modesty and humility is being shown by the people who have achieved a lot in their life. In any area or field, you observe, the ones who are at the top are always kind and humble enough in their nature. Barring a few exceptions, either in a corporate world or in sports or any other area, the one who has achieved a lot in their life always seems to be grounded. I believe you need this trait in order to succeed and fly high in life and that's what makes them so special. Absolutely the greatest of all traits one needs to possess, esp. when you are in a leadership position.
