Why 'House' Means "Noble Family"

That came to mind when I was thinking about The Gospel's "In my father's house, there are many 'mansions'" (most versions translate that "rooms," but 'I was raised on the KJV') https://biblehub.com/john/14-2.htm I asked around, and finally found out that it was because 'surnames' (last names) really didn't matter to us peasants, and only mattered to the nobles because they inherited 'the house(s).' During my search, I was also reminded 'that the areas astrological-signs presided over' were called "houses."
