Flagging tape litterbug

I spent the last few days in the Green Swamp hunting. You are allowed to park anyplace and hike into your desired spot. The property is huge and there is no reason to hunt near anybody else. Saturday morning I parked at my usual spot and hiked in about 3/4 mile. I find a beautiful spot that I had never been to before. I climb my tree and sit back to enjoy the world coming alive.
About 10 am I hear a large stick break. I look back toward an opening and I see some guy bumbling around. He must enjoy stepping on sticks and making noise. This did not please me, but hey, I am on public land and he has as much right to be there as I do. It didn't take him long to "stalk" his way out of there. I can hear him long after I can no longer see him. I call these types of hunters Elmer Fudd --- "which way did he go. which way did he go".
About 30 minutes later I hear something moving through the palmettos to my right. There is Elmer. I watch him through my binoculars. He wraps a tree with flagging tape, walks about 10 yards and wraps another tree. He repeats this time and time again. At 11:30 I see Elmer heading back the way he came. He did not pick up any of the flagging tape. I understand not wanting to get lost in a new place, but there are limits to everything. I figured I would see him the next day following his flagging tape trail. Nope, he never showed. If it wasn't for me his flagging tape would have been there for years. To me leaving flagging tape is littering.

@jaboUK I am ashamed to say that I know so little about England that I have to ask: are there public-land wilderness areas that people are free to hunt/fish/camp with the proper licenses? I am sure there are designated "camping" areas, I mean true wilderness areas where one could get lost if one wanted.

It takes all kinds.......
The shame of it all is, some places have so much flagging tape that it is easy to walk past and ignore it.
