An Indonesian friend made something called Perkedel. I thought it sounded and looked delicious, so decided to give it a try.
First, I looked up the recipes online to see what I'd need and then, being me, gave it my own spin.
These are a mixture of hamburger, spices, finely chopped veggies and potatoes made into patties, dipped in egg yolk and fried.
Does it look interesting to you?
Here is the original post I read:
I don't have any appetite for few days. Seeing rice makes make want to throw up, but I need carbs so tonight I decided making perkedel. It made from crushed...

It's a hamburger, veggies, spices and potato mixture that is fried after dipping it in egg yolk. It's a bit messy to make but tastes really good!

We both liked the patties cooked in olive oil better than the ones cooked with egg yolk.
I had put the leftover patties into a storage bowl and into the fridge... I went to get one a little while ago and found the empty bowl in the sink, waiting for me to wash it.

I added a bunch of the veggies I dried this past summer to it.
Perkedel is supposed to be hamburger, spices and potatoes fried with egg yolk.

@Fleura If you come over Pretty is frying more of them right now. She is leaving out the egg yolk and frying them in olive oil. They taste even better that way!

This is the plate of them that I made. After I finished frying them Pretty came in, tasted one and then told me to make some more patties. She fried them without the egg yolk but added olive oil to the pan to fry them in.
Here are the ones she fried.

It was good, yes. But it was time consuming and messy to make. There is a dish I make here called Shepherd's Pie that uses almost the same ingredients but is much easier to make. No patties and no frying. Everything is layered in a baking dish and baked.
Do you get meat in your perkedel?

@Babale Thank you. I was wondering about that. The recipes I found online all contained beef.

@DaddyEvil As far as I know perkedel are not filled with meat, but sometimes some people add a little vegetable in it.

I finely chopped green onions, red onions, grated carrots and celery into the pan while the hamburger was cooking. Then I made mashed potatoes and mixed the two together. I shaped patties in my hand, dipped them in egg yolk and dry fried them in a hot pan. They tasted pretty good.
Pretty tried them then had me make some more patties but she fried them in a bit of olive oil. We both liked those much better.
Have you ever eaten Shepherd's pie? They taste like that but without the cheese.

@DaddyEvil Indonesian people usually prepare the vegetarian version. Also in France they make the meat version that there is called fricandeaux, it always contains beef.

@LadyDuck That's interesting... Do you know if a lot of Indonesians are vegetarians or if they just don't like the version containing meat?

Thank you. I was wondering about that. Some of the Indonesian people seem surprised I added hamburger to my patties.

Pretty and I both liked it but it was messy to make. It tastes almost the same as Shepherd's Pie. Since that is simpler and quicker to make, I probably won't make perkedel again.

I might have had it once but cannot remember. Sorry it was a mess to make. I can understand why you would not make it again. Have you had Sheperd's pie?

I added two types of onions, shredded carrots, finely chopped celery, pepper, salt, garlic and cumin. I believe that is enough seasonings.
