Thrifty/Recycled Padded Envelopes

Hey all, Recently I've been selling a bit online - odds and ends, my own hand painted jewelry and so on.... and have needed padded envelopes. While I don't consider myself a "business" it is good for anyone , selling anything, to note that whatever costs you have in getting the item(s) to your buyer, be that gas, postage, packing materials, etc - should be subtracted from the amount the item sold for. This should help you in your pricing of said items. Truly it can be a case of a penny saved, = a penny earned. So I found this hack for making my own padded envelopes. Buy a pack of the "manila mailing envelopes" - typically around $1 for 6 envelopes. Save whatever padded "bubble" mailers you get your orders in. Cut "Bubble mailer" to either the size of your envelope, or size of your items. Stuff bubble mailer inside of manila envelope. Much cheaper than buying new bubble mailers AND better for the environment since you are re-using. Photo: Mine

Good idea not that I mail anything out at present but we do get bubble wraps of various types. They could be saved in a bin if they were needed for such purposes.

@FayeHazel I've saved boxes that things come in just in case I'll want one sometime but now I'm working on eliminating them because they take up to much space. Plus if I never get them out it will be my kids that do it when we're gone and I'm trying to be more proactive with that.

Yes! I do agree. A great idea to reuse instead of create more waste and spend more money.

Yeah - because you are putting the used one inside of a "clean" new one....

True. Sometimes Ebay's postage price adjuster tool is just so very off

I do that as well. Buying a new one would cost me money. Why waste when I already have the stuff.

Ah, so that's how you ship your slogans and jingles. You're saving so much money, are you sure you can't work for free?

I did the same thing when I used to ship vintage loudspeaker I restored. I'd keep old boxes and bubble wrap. It was packing-time that made me decide to work "locally" only.

That’s a great idea. Hubs was a professor and they loaded his home office up with so many envelopes. I should sell them all.

I really like this idea. Way to go. And by the way, you may not consider yourself a "business," but costing your items to include all of the associated costs, and not just thinking of a markup... Is simply good business and great business sense.
