Deleting older posts.....

We make posts here. While some posts get a good number of responses, others fail to do so. And I can't actually pinpoint what's the reason. It's the time of post, the content or less activities at mylot on that particular day or a mix of all... I have a few old posts that have not got good number of responses. And the content is valid for today too. I just thought of deleting the older ones here, editing them a bit and reposting them as fresh discussions. And I hope I am not violating any rules and regulations by doing so.There are beautiful contents in those posts and I expected a good number of responses. Has anyone done that here?

Some people regularly delete the old posts, it's your right to do.. I do not appreciate a lot re-posted articles, because I often remember almost immediately that "I already read this one".

@arunima25 If you use your personal blogging the content is yours and it remains yours, I do not believe there are violations.

Even I will not appreciate it. But maybe I can use some of them in my writing elsewhere with modifications and of course taking care of plagiarism. I would not appreciate reading the same post again. I will definitely repost it with added content.

@LadyDuck Yes. That happens. Here whatever we post is a short one. I want to use those ideas that I post for my personal blogging. I wanted to incorporate some good responses also there into my writing when I would rewrite it for my blog. I will make sure that I do not violate any regulations of this site and also for the other personal site of mine.

I haven't done that. I suppose it's okay to do it. Somehow, I would find it hard to delete posts although probably not if I were rewriting them. Like you, I don't know why some posts do really well and others don't. I do think it pays to try to have a catchy title. What do you think?

@arunima25 I have to confess that I get a bit tired of the 'what I had for lunch' type of posts but I feel a certain amount of loyalty to those I follow and who follow me. I'd like to be able to sort my posts into files as sometimes I search for a particular subject and it can take ages. The tags are useful in that respect.

Thanks Judy. I would not like to bore mylotters here with the same post again. We have enough things to share and write here and I don't even keep up with that. This long list is sometimes overwhwlimg to look at. I will like to make it short by deleting some real old ones. And if there are some worth rewriting and reviving I will do that. Catchy title definitely attracts a lot of people. But I also felt that people respond more to short posts of Good Morning, Good Night, Lunch etc. Maybe simpler and convenient and it adds up to your bank.

@JudyEv That's a good idea. Sorting them into files. We get more and more of such posts but as long as they don't violate the rules, everyone is free to post what they wish for.

@arunima25 I hardly get responses to my posts simply because I respond only to a few posts. I have accepted this scenario You scratch my back and I will yours is the way a Site works.

You are right. I am not going to post it as it is. Some of the good contents have got a miss here and I just want to rewrite and reuse them. Also, I am overwhelmed at the long list here. I feel like clearing up. You know my OCD with cleaning up

@allknowing Yes. We all have developed a way to work here depending on what suits us and how much time we have at our hands to spend here. I get an average of 15 to 16 replies to my posts. For some, I got only in single digits while there were few that crossed 25. My maximum has been 39.

I too would not personally appreciate that to respond to something I have already done. And neither do I like to bore people here with the same post. I will definitely post it unless I rewrite it with some added fun and content. I might use it for my wiring elsewhere keeping all plagiarism rules in mind. And seeing a long list here is triggering my OCD to clean up and clear up

I don't think you are violating any rules doing that. And yes, I have done that from time to time. I don't make a habit of it. But so long as it is occasional, I don't think there is anything at all wrong with it. Not sure admin's views on it. But I can't see why it would be bad so long as it's not a habit.

It will definitely not be my habit. Because as such my creative brain come up with so many ideas and I am not able to post it due to time constraint. I just feel overwhelmed to see a long list of discussions there. Want to make it short by deleting some real old ones and in the process if I find something worth to be revived and rewritten, I will do that. Thank you for your response. It was helpful.

@arunima25 That tends to be the way I think about it as well. Since this site lets us write about just about anything at all, and because each and every day presents new experiences and other things we can talk about, there should be an endless stream of new things to talk about, and not necessarily a need to regurgitate or recycle older stuff.

@porwest Very true. In fact I get so many ideas but fail to make a post due to time constraints. Many users use it as a daily journal and so many make multiple short posts in a day about their day to day happenings.

I have been here for almost 14 years now and things were far different then and many of the older members left the site when it closed down for a while, never to come back. I miss those days and the only memory I have is the old discussions and interactions . I would never want to delete any one of them but like you say reposting them in a different format may not be a bad idea ...

We don't encourage the reposting of old posts as a way of increasing their responses. There is nothing against multiple posts on the same topic, however, so, if you feel that a topic is worth revisiting, you may want to rewrite it from the point of view you have today (and delete an older post on the same topic). It is not a good idea to repost something which is only a few days old simply because it didn't receive the number of responses you expected. That could well be considered 'gaming the system'. You may, of course, 'revive' a post and put it back into the 'Most Recent Activity' list (and into people's notifications) by commenting on the responses and comments it already has.. You could also make sure that it has appropriate and relevant tags, which will make it more likely that people interested in those topics and using those tags themselves will be more likely to see it and respond. As @myklj999 says, people are individuals and, if a post gets few responses, it's usually because it didn't attract them in the first place and there's no reason why posting it again will make it any more attractive.

Thanks for your detailed response to it. And I agree with it. I will not appreciate anyone reposting the old posts. I just wanted to clear up my long list of discussions here. That sometimes can be overwhelming. If I use the old post, I will not repost it. I will definitely rewrite it and revive it with added content that I have in mind currently. I want mylot to be a good place for fertile brains and creative brains. Reviving an old post will use the creative brain.

I know a few people simply delete older posts so that they no longer receive responses from them. I only delete a post if I've changed my mind about it. I do not think you'll violate any guidelines by deleting and re-writing them.

I deleted all my posts at one point. I was highly considering leaving the site at the time. But other than that I periodically delete old post. I really can't see a reason to save them. Most of these posts aren't going to continue to earn anything for the site in the long run although a few (very few) likely will. I definitely get rid of ones that just don't do well as obviously no one is really interested, no need to repurpose what didn't work. As to the rules I would just refer you to the rules as I don't repurpose my articles so have not faced this issue.
