Both my dogs are rescues Ben is about 10, Gypsy about 5, When he came to me, Ben wold sit on command. Poor Gypsy, it took her ages to figure out "How" to sit and she was not a puppy back then. These days, they look away or give out blank looks when I command them to do something or they simply ignore me and go on with what they are doing. They play together but there is no fetch or tug-o-war. I used to love those games with Lucy my previous dog. It's me the dogs have trained. A yip at a closed door brings me running. Tipping a food ball upside down has me filling it. Little gazes at my side means "you forgot to fill the water bowls"

Dogs can be strange sometimes. Me, I've always been a cat person. However, I am sure your dogs can be trained. It'l just take patience.

@JWMILLER I love both. My cat, Banjo passed away last year. I'd like another but cannot bring myself to do it.

It's so amazing how wonderfully our fur babies communicate with us.

Not sure about that. I think they can be good/bad influences on each other.

Was looking for that beautiful bird, and I got dogs, which is OK. I like dogs, seem smart.to have trained you well, as mine used to do me.

More and more I've come to believe that our pets are pretty good at training their 'bosses' to do their bidding.

I do train my cats. So I'm positive you can reserve and train your dogs someday. Lots of luck for that.
