A woman who attempted to rescue her dog who fell into an icy Mississippi River is grateful to be alive after she was rescued by the Minneapolis Fire Department on Saturday afternoon. My best guess is that either the woman or an eyewitness contacted 911 to report the incident to the authorities who then relayed the message to the Minneapolis Fire Department to rescue the woman and her dog. The woman managed to stay afloat on a shelf of ice while the dog managed to swim toward the shore and is safe and sound. The firefighters used protective gear to rescue the woman and get her inside a rowboat to shore where she was given a warm blanket and taken to a local hospital to be taken care of any ill effects from her time in the icy river. The dog is in good condition at this time despite spending time in an icy river. I am not one to second guess the decisions done by anyone who dares to walk on an icy river since I have never lived in extreme winter conditions. I just am wondering if in the future anyone who is near a frozen body of water will think twice before walking on ice since the chances of survival are not good unless someone is there to rescue them from danger.

By now, all children and adults should know better than to walk on ice. YIKES! However, I am so glad she and her pet were rescued. I probably would have done the same to save a pet's life.

Thank you for your input on what you would have done if your pet fell into an icy river.

@Deepizzaguy I would die if that happened to my pets.

I agree with you. Better to live another day than pass away in an icy river.

I can't swim so I wouldn't be anywhere near a few dozen river.

I am glad both of them are safe and sound. I can understand why she did but still it's a dangerous act.

When there's danger, some people don't always think. Glad she's okay and the dog was unharmed.

I am guilty of going into a panic mode when I am danger.

I would never do that, kind of crazy. However, when it comes to your pet, you will take risks. Glad she and the dog were rescued.

Interesting. I've walked on ice covered ponds during my childhood and teen years. I never had an accident while doing so. I wouldn't do it now, but I'm much bigger and heavier than I was back then. Walking on ice covering a moving water source would have been a no-no back then as you can't trust ice over a current. It's possible the woman called emergency services for help rescuing the dog and was turned down, so went into the water herself because emergency services WILL respond to a person needing rescue.

That woman would have so cold. Sounds a bit of a silly decision to go walking on the ice but perhaps she had her reasons.
