Tifanny Took Away Most of My Savings

The temperature is going high and I immediately parked her outside our office. I called the mechanic and he said the motor fan needs to be replaced. The following day, I discovered that the water is draining too fast. I brought it again to the mechanic and said the reservoir cap need to be replaced, so it was. But I was not fully confident that everything is okay. The next day, I was trying to start the car but failed. I found out that the battery was drained. I decided to buy a new battery. Today, I brought the car to another shop for further checking because I am still not satisfied with Tifanny's performance. Oh no, my savings is almost empty and I am thinking what if I sold her and buy a new one?

Thank you for the suggestion. But I will first observe if these issues continues, then I would probably think of buying a new one. However, compared to the current cars I can see on the highway, with materials which look fragile, I can say, I would still prefer this old heavy duty car. Unless of course I could afford those pick-ups. But those are too expensive.

@rakski I think my salary is not enough to buy this kind of vehicle as of yet ha ha. Maybe on my next promotion. I need to save more.

@ARIES1973 It must be difficult to find the car parts, it looks like the car is very old.

OMG. I am using those to fund my small business (mobile loading business). I don't earn big from crypto yet.

@May2k8 Toyota parts are easy to find. What I can't stand is going to the auto repair shop often.

Bring it to a reliable mechanic and ask for an assessment. If you will continue paying for repairs, might be a good time to sell it and get a new car.

@allen0187 Yes, the owner of an auto shop wanted to buy it but I told him I am not selling it. He said, just buy a Wigo and I said, I don't like a girly car.

Yes, I just brought it to another mechanic and they discovered that the radiator is dirty and the alternator has been damaged. They also discovered that the battery is not charging. I wonder why the previous mechanic did not tell me about it. I like this car because I believe the engine is still good. I want to preserve it because I like it's design. I saw several old cars being posted on Facebook and they just look awesome. I know this car can still be of service for a long time so long as it is properly maintained.

When you're paying more for a car to fix it than it costs for a new one, a replacement might be the better option. And, if you don't already know how, learn how to do some fixes, yourself. save you a lot of money.

@ARIES1973 No, but you can easily learn what the lights mean, how to change a tire and check tire pressure. Do you put water and stuff in the car? Anything other then fuel.... ?

@kaylachan Yes, I am checking the water inside the reservoir before going to work. When the water level gets low, I already know how to put water and also the coolant. I also check the oil level everyday. But I haven't tried changing the tire yet. I need to learn this too.

There were times when I tried to do some fixes by myself such as replacing the side mirror. Well, perhaps I need to learn how to properly apply window tint. I am planning to have it as my skin is already burnt because of direct heat of the sun going through the windows. But those issues concerning the engine, I might not be able to learn those easily.

I just received a message from the mechanic that it is ready for pick up. I might excuse from the office to pick it up. I hope it is already in good condition as I will be using it for a long drive tomorrow.

@sol_cee Thank you. We might take public transportation if ever something goes wrong. But hopefully, everything is okay. The car is running when I brought it to the mechanic. Some parts just need replacement.

@ARIES1973 You should have a backup plan in case something goes wrong for tomorrow’s drive, not that I’m jinxing or something

I hope that after this, everything is okay. I actually learned a lot from this experience. I think after this, I would be able to take good care of the car effectively as the mechanic pinpointed the issues which made me realized that I haven't been taking care of the vehicle the right way.

So far, the car is nearly done and I can drive it again tomorrow. I think the mechanic already addressed the issues and have it repaired. Good thing my car is a Toyota which parts are readily available unlike other brands.

How old is your car? Because most likely old cars really have high maintenance.

It's a 1993 model. Yes, I have been spending a lot for it's maintenance. But I might keep it first until I saved enough amount for a new car.

@ARIES1973 Yes, that's a good idea to save money first before buying a new one. You may also find an auto repair shop that has a good reputation so it would be fully repaired.

That's what I did with my old car. It had started giving a lots of issues and I sold it in November 2019 and bought a new one. But I didn't drive the new car much due to pandemic and house arrest.
