Door Dasher STOLE our order!

My daughter ordered food delivery thru Door Dash from our local convenience store (Wawa) for the two of us. A Dasher claimed the batch and arrived at the store. Apparently, the first Dasher picked up the order without checking in to the location, so when they left, Door Dash thought they'd abandoned the pickup. A new Dasher accepted the batch and went to the store only to be told it was already picked up. The store had to remake our orders and shop for the shelf items so the new Dasher could deliver. Unfortunately, they didn't have any 2 liter diet sodas left and they grabbed the wrong size of chips (smaller than ordered), so my daughter was owed a refund. Well, Door Dash told my daughter that they weren't refunding the money because she should have checked the bags before she left the store. HUH?!?! How could she check anything when it was a delivery order, not a pickup order??!! Never EVER tell my daughter that SHE is to blame for something someone else did!!! Needless to say, she's getting her refund.

This is why I perfer to shop in-store and do not care to rely on delivery for things I can get by wheeling my happy self to get on my own. Glad your daughter got her well-deserved refund, and I'm sorry you had your first order stolen.

She usually does just that, but she didn't even get to work today because her car is stuck in the snow. I use them a lot because I don't have a car.

It is. Their argument against it was unreasonable.

The problem was that they didn't even tell the company that they picked it up. They canceled the pickup AFTER they picked up the food, so Door Dash got someone else to pick it up. But it was already gone. They conned the store, the delivering company AND us.

@jerzgirl yeah people do they. Most likely they will find the person and not allow them to work for door dash again. This also happen to us at the start of the pandemic. Since then it wasn’t a problem. We have a few things not be placed in the bags but that’s not door dash fault it’s the places fault and we reported and get our money back.

I just.. But why would she even use door dash to pick up food for her own self? Their excuse for not wanting to refund makes no sense to me.

I don't understand the term 'door dasher'. It's not in the dictionary. What does it mean, please?

Door Dash is a company that delivers food, usually fast food like McDonald's, from restaurants that don't do their own delivering. The people who deliver are called dashers. There are several different companies that do this. Customers order through an app and the deliverers see the order pop up and accept or ignore according to their own preferences. During the covid lockdown, it kept many restaurants open when they couldn't serve sit down meals and while people were afraid to leave their homes. It also helped people who were out of work earn some money.

@jerzgirl Thanks for the explanation. I think it would be a good idea to insert this info in the post proper. The site is full of non-English speaking people who don't know this.

@popciclecold that is true. But it's always surprising to me that someone would actually calculate a way to pull this off. It's not like they can pawn it for good money.

Damn, that's not good at all. I never use services like door dash. If I need perishables I go get it myself, I like to see what I am about to buy. If it's pet food or non perishables I will buy from Walmart.com or Target.com or Vitacost or Chewy.com, I've come to trust those sites over the years.

We had ordered dinner since the store also offers ready to eat prepared hot foods. My daughter's car is stuck in the snow. I hope she can get it unstuck in the morning to go to work. Everything ordered was eaten and is gone already. Pet supplies and groceries I order from Amazon. I have limited mobility and no vehicle.

@rebelann I know. I'm very picky about what I order and try to fill in the rest elsewhere when I can.
