Healing Day

Have you ever thought how beautiful a baby you were when you came out of your mother's womb? Not the case for me. I was born a bit underweight in a rural hospital far from the city. On a stormy day. My mother swaddled me tight till my baptism, to hide my tiny and bony body. Not the cuddly child. Not the smoochy bundle of joy. The appearance though was misleading for I cried the top of my lungs. Probably accounts for vocal timbre distinctly recognizable to family and friends. Neighbors, too. Yup, I was perfect inside. All organs functioned well. I was a runner, a swimmer, a soccer and softball enthusiast, a basketball varsity, and could even been a gymnast or a ballet dancer if my thighs weren't plump. Unfortunately, like most people back in the good old days, I helped my self with colas and junk chips. Thus, the pancreas failed. Sigh. Been living with the misgivings for three decades now. The pain, of course, were all endured. How else that I am still alive? Lately though, with the global pandemic that kept me on house arrest for almost a year, I do think the neuropathy is not as severe any longer. Yup, I did discipline the body with proper nourishment and the soul with constant meditation. And today, the liturgy reads that everything our God created was perfect. We managed to get sick, yes, but if we just get to touch the tassel of our Lord's cloak, we will be healed.

Thank you. I didn't have much time to care for my self before. Now, I am truly enjoying my sweet precious time.

@LadyDuck True. The pain did impede me from venturing into more activities like travelling with old classmates to other countries such as Australia and Singapore. I would have enjoyed the bonding and the tours. In that sense, my life was ruined. Ha ha

I was a breech, so, like my mother says, born awkward! I had a lovely mass of black hair when I was born, but I had to have it all shaved off to go into an incubator. I've never managed to get it back. My hair's just a dull brown now!

I do like tawny shade of hair locks. More fascinating just because we, in my country, are all a bevy of brunettes. Breech babies are invoked whenever someone accidentally swallows a fish thorn. It's a superstition in my country and I don't actually believe breech babies have that healing power but why not, it's good to remember someone just the same.

@sharonelton Were you able to correct the condition? That must have been a physically challenging childhood.

@eileenleyva I can't remember much of it because I was very young. But I never could cross my legs properly. You know how you do, like when you're in PE classes and they make you cross your legs when you're sitting on the floor? I told them I couldn't do it and they wouldn't listen and they made me, so there I was, my knees where sticking up and I kept rocking backwards and forwards! Then I said, well, I told you I couldn't do it! I used to sit with my legs folded back behind my bum instead. I don't know how to describe it proplerly. Do you know what I mean?

I was told my nerves were damaged and couldn't possibly regain my normal strength and walk. Wella, I shouldn't have listened to that foul advice.

@eileenleyva To be fair, doctors are human and can only advise based on what they know. Nerves typically don't heal. This has been proven. In rare cases, and under the right circumstances they can. This of course depends on a number of things. You've proven medical experts wrong about you, and should enjoy your life to the fullest.
