Andre Rieu - Wedding Special

Today's episode of Andre Rieu concentrated on one of his sopranos. Mirusia was going to get married, so Andre surprised her. He said we are going to do some recording at the studio, be there at 3. So she and the Platin Tenors arrived and Andre surprised her. He had written a song for her, because she was getting married, and his wife Marjorie had written the lyrics. It is called Mio Angelo (which means My Angel in Italian). It is a very beautiful song. So they got the music and the lyrics and then they recorded the song. (It is on the Roman Holiday CD). Now Andre thought, we have the song, and it sounds like it's going to be a hit, so what do hits need? A music video! So in 4 days they organised a makeshift wedding. There was the church, the car, Pierre Rieu, Andre's son, was acting as driver. Andre was going to act as Mirusia's Father and give her away, and her real life boyfriend would be the groom. Andre reminded us of some of the wonderful performances Mirusia had given during his concerts over the years, being an angel on a wire, singing songs like Don't Cry For Me Argentina, Pie Jesu, Feed the Birds, Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again and the first ever song she sang with Andre, Some Day My Prince Will Come. And come he did, in the form of one of Andre's security guards! So they did the video for Mio Angelo. Everyone was emotional, just like a real wedding. It was wonderful, and Mirusia said, I hope it's like this on the actual day! There was another soprano called Carmen who desperately wanted to catch the bouquet! And she did! (No-one else dare get in her way!) She really wanted to marry her boyfriend! And it worked because not long after her boyfriend proposed and now she is married too! The next part of the filming for the video involved Mirusia and her boyfriend running through a field and kissing! Now, the field they were going to use turned out to be riddled with cow pats (and nice and fresh they were too!) They just managed to dodge the cow pats and completed that part of filming, but Mirusia found it hard running through the field with her high heels on! And there was the business of keeping that wedding dress out of the muck! The final part of the video involved a hot air balloon. Part of the lyric of the song goes thus:- You'll be my groom In a balloon So ofcause they had to have a hot air balloon. They thought it was going to be so easy. Just go up in the balloon, the balloon will go in that direction, and we film it. Easy, right? Na. The balloon had other ideas. There was a strong gust of wind that blew the balloon off course. They had to bring the balloon down and pull it on ropes to where they wanted it and then start again. All for just a few seconds of the balloon going up at the end of the video! So, two weeks before her actual wedding, Andre called Mirusia into the studio to watch the finished video - and we got to see it in its entirety too. It was absolutely lovely. In part of the video they let some doves go. At the very end of the programme, Andre talked about this being something that Mirusia will remember for a long time. And then we saw a clip of her singing Memories from Cats. While she's singing it we see little snippets of sepia toned video clips of many of the performances Mirusia had done, including the angel, Mary Poppins and many others. It was absolutely magical.
