Great responsibility

Now is the right time for winter pruning of vines. (In mid-February) They say that the precondition for a high yield of vines is adequate pruning. As my father has done so far, now I have to take on that responsibility and I have a huge nervousness not to prune wrongly. I watched a bunch of video content and read a lot of texts on the subject. We will see in the spring / summer whether I will succeed and finish a good pruning. Wish me luck, I can't mess this up Have you ever had the opportunity to prune a vine? I pruned blackberries and raspberries, they grow so much that I do not fear to make mistakes.

@LadyDuck Yes, I would say that it is a slightly different pruning and that it is practically impossible to go wrong ... especially this applies to blackberries, I know from experience

@LadyDuck Everything is nicely explained, the most important thing is where to cut, and it is cut above the knot and this applies in general to all vines for cutting in the winter, I watched a lot of videos where they showed how high ... but I definitely have a stage fright because the first the way I do it

I have Mexican elder on my lot and I did try pruning it but I am not sure I did it correctly. It is an evergreen vine that can be pruned to grow like a tree.

Mexican elder comes from the tropical region of Mexico and where I am it is dry and very hot rather than tropical so it suffers during parts of our year @LowRiderX Right now it is still green but the foliage is sparse.

@rebelann You have, I’m sure on the internet how to prune that species. I pruned my vine and now I’m eager to see if I’ve done well, I won’t know until the vegetation starts

@rebelann Do you protect it during the winter, wrap it in a bag, possibly a sack if it is planted outside?

@RebeccasFarm As for the grapes (vines) would be overgrown with weeds, and the fruits would be much smaller. I guess over time the plant would dry out because the weeds would 'eat' it.. and so more or less all the plants, I believe most of the weeds would be around us

We do not have vines at home, no garden. Our lot at home is limited in the city where we live. How I dream to have a big land to plant veggies and other green and leafy things.

Good luck with your pruning. I know it is extremely important to get it right. Do you have an air-operated pruner? That is what they use here if they have a lot of pruning to do.
