Winter Is Back

A few weeks ago, I wrote a post about the first signs of spring. This morning looking out my window I’m tempted to think that might have been a bit premature. I’m looking at some of the worst winter weather we’ve seen this year. Snow and freezing rain and sleet. And it’s not expected to get much above freezing until the weekend. Frequently in our area with this type of weather, we experience power outages. It’s all the ice on the trees and power lines that causes the problem. And we have lots and lots of trees. We are prepared, as best we can be. We have an exceptionally good fireplace with a glass door and blower that will just about heat our whole house. However, without power the blower doesn’t work. It will keep us from freezing however, and we have a kerosene heather for some backup. We knew this was coming and had time to prepare so there’s plenty of food and other necessities. And next week the temperatures are predicted to be in the 50’s all week. I’ll bet the daffodils will still be there peeking through the ground ready to start blooming.

We have about 4 inches of snow, sleet, and freezing rain. Temps in teens F. We really should have gone to the house in a nearby town when we are "older" and need to be closer to "civilization", not out here in the woods. Still watching McLeod's Daughters. Kinda getting old in some ways.

I also really like the winter season. I happened to visit because of the 'POWER OUTAGES' tag!

I'm glad you are prepared. Last week my big messy rose bush had buds on it. Not sure what is going on there now that December weather has hit us.

I think the best solution for the power outages would be start doing underground cabling. That way, the electrical wires won't easily get affected by any kind of stormy weather.
