I am not into football (soccer) at all. However sometimes at the end of the news there is the part dedicated to sport and as I'm tuned in I listen.
Today there was an interview with a trainer of a top team who have an important match this weeked.
I'm not sure what the question asked by the giornalist who was interviewing him was but I will never forget his answer:
"if we don't lose we will win"
I really don't know why I keep the television, especially as there is the fee for the annual license to pay too - to hear things which are so darn obvious!
Where do you get updates on the news?

Did it take you long to work that out I wonder?
Most of mine comes from online. I don't like the news here on television as the giornalists add their own opinion too. Not good at all.

Right. The news should be just about the facts. I kinda look over all the sources just to see what they have to say, and then try to piece it all together .

@much2say Me too! I comment on articles too and say what I feel about things, even if it goes against the grain

I had never thought of it that way but you probably have the answer there as to why it was such a silly response

@rebelann So true and that really did happen here. I don't remember the name of the footballer but last summer there was a huge case. He had to take an exam in Italian (he was a foreigner) and the exam was rigged so that he passed. He was told the questions in advance so that he could prepare for the exam. Some officials involved lost their jobs over the affair - and rightly so too!

I wonder how many athletes can get through school without their coaches rigging the rest of the school curriculum @mysdianait

I am trying to consciously avoid news. Everything is so pathetic. Dad however is addicted to politics. So I invariably get a load of it from television. Nowadays, he gets two newspapers. What does vanny read? Not much. Just stocks column.
As to his sentence...I can only say they would win if they don't lose.

I haven't used or read a newspaper for a very long time, years in fact. I get most of my news online but the television is on in the background too. Much of what is on the news here in Italy though is opinions and not facts, especially concerning politics

@mysdianait Exactly, it is more of debate and opinions. Mind immediately questions ..why are you not asking this.

I listen rather than watch the news on tv. It's all so sad.
I don't have Netflix yet. I feel that if I pay then I would feel obliged to watch more than I do right now instead of doing other things. I will catch up in years to come on all the films and series that I'm missing now

@besweet Yes there is that opportunity here too. When I decide to spend more time on the sofa then I will look into it and get an account too - and do some catching up!

@mysdianait There are too many shows, at least you will get to read reviews and watch the best of them when the time comes! I think you can watch from different devices at the same time so we are sharing the cost with the family and each one has their own account.

I get news on my phone. Top stories pop up local, and otherwise. I don't really care to watch the news, too many bad things happening in the world these days.

I think they take a special class to learn how to say stupid things, just like politicians do to learn to say nothing in 100 words or more.

I am really convinced that some don't have to take classes and that it comes naturally to them! Many of our politicians too seem to have an inborn talent and win so many people over too

I have stopped watching movies and I will watch them all in the future. I don't like to sit long watching television and they last at least a couple of hours.

I pay little or no attention to the news. And I certainly wouldn't listen to anything to do with sports. Anything Pretty believes I need to know she tells me. (She gets news from the internet, but don't ask me any further than that, as I have no clue.)
We disconnected our televisions over 13 years ago and haven't missed them. When we moved November of 2019, we gave away all but one television and it is only hooked up to a dvd/vcr player and her gaming systems. In the last year and a half, she and I have watched two dvds on it.
We both watch movies on our computers or on my phone. What more could anyone need/want?

I don't think I could be totally without television. It's usually on most of the time on a news channel but
Idon't really watch mcsh. I have no pay tv or such as I don't spend time watching. I'm usually doing something else at the same time.

@mysdianait At first, I missed shows I had always watched, but then I became more active online. I was a moderator on WebAnswers and then started working on other sites, too. Before long I didn't even notice the tv wasn't constantly running.
Pretty and I both value the quiet now. Nothing droning in the background, nothing drawing our attention away from whatever we choose to do. *shrug*

Almost €100 a year ($121) and it is tied up to the electricity bill so that no-one can escape paying it. We pay it in 6 installments throughout the year.

There’s quite a few famous stupid quotes of football people. This is a good one. Playing with wingers is more effective against European teams like Brazil than against English teams like Wales.Though I guess for your quote he isn’t stating the obvious because if you don’t lose you could either draw or win.
