What is your opinion of Gay Marriage?

United States

I'm just curious what everyone else thinks. Personally, I think that every person should have the same rights, and the right to get married to whomever you want should be included. Banning gay marriage writes discrimination into state constitutions in a country where discrimination isn't supposed to be an issue. What do you think?

let me add this to the question. It's been said that if gay marriage was legalized, that there would be more gay couples getting frisky in public. Do you agree? I think honestly that the decline in affection between people after marriage would affect them just as much as it affects straight couples, so allowing gay marriage would actually cut down on gay PDA's. What do you think?

I think that it is okay for gays to get married and show affection everyone needs love and if a woman can't get it from a man than get it from a woman no one has a right to change peoples orrentation or their power of commitment/marriage through written law

But marriage is a governmental institute in America, not a religious one. In America, we practice a seperation of Church and State, which means that religious ideals cannot be used to dictate governmental decisions. So the argument that 'God says it's wrong' (which actually, the evidence in the Bible that mentions homosexuality was mistranslated and actually refers to worship of pagain gods) doesn't hold up.

I don't agree. Here in america, the federal government will not recognize it, which is a good thing.

What makes you think it's a good thing? I'm not looking to argue, I just want to know your reasoning, that's all.

I believe in equal rights for everyone. Marriage is no longer a religious institution and can no longer be gauged by the rules of any one religion. It's a government institution. Gay folks deserve to be able to visit their partners in the hospital, to make medical decisions, to be granted custody of any children should one spouse pass on, and to receive the same tax benefits as any other married couple. The only arguments against it are religious ones. America is a country where we are supposed to practice the seperation of church and state. Religious values aren't valid to determine government laws.

I say go for it. As long asa there is love why should it matter what the gender of both parties is. I give them credit just for being open about it. Live and let live is my motto.

Why does there need to be defined gender roles? It's not about there being a 'man' and a 'woman'. It's about two people who love each other. Not every gay person falls into a neat little mold. Your comment on there needing to be a man and woman says a lot about how you view relationships, really.

as what i will say, if you don't discriminate against race, why discriminate against sexuality? gays are not doing any harm and are just minding their own business doing what is them so leave them alone! :)

I think Gay Marriage should be legalized. Two people in love should be able to marry each other. Banning gay marriage is equal to saying asians shouldn't be able to marry white people... it's discrimination either way. It's stupid.
