Disturbing Behavior

We were at a store this evening just after dark, at the car, ready to leave. This nice car drove up with an elderly lady driving.
She said " excuse me, can I ask you something?" We looked at her and said " yes."
She then said " I need to get my granddaughter to Huntsville and I need gas money. "
Robert said " sorry we just spent our money."
When I looked at the granddaughter she was in the floor of the car, looked to be about 15 years old, I suppose she wanted her to look like a little kid.
That scam for money has been around forever.

@andriaperry it is very unlikely behavior. It is better to really ask upfront than do that

During the epidemic period, we should be more on guard against fraud

We fell for it because we didn't know what else to do. I knew it was a scam; but I felt guilty. The guy said he needed gas money.

My goodness, what a bad example for her granddaughter. I am sure that she did not want money for gas. I wonder if this is something she does every day.

Wow. It's people like grand mom that makes it hard to want to help someone because no one wants to be a victim of a scam at any level. I wonder how much she did make because I am sure there were some who gave because she was elderly.
Reminds me about when Mike gave someone $10 in a Wal Mart parking lot. They were wanting to get to the next county, said they fell on bad times. He said he was from Tennessee. After Mike gave him the $, I looked down and there were Louisiana plates on his truck. I told Mike he lied about being from Tennessee, he heard me and cursed at me. About that time the police pulled up. Apparently someone had called them on him.

i hate that kind of stuff. I feel bad at first when I say no, then as they leave i see the truth, and i feel better that I said no!
