Sucking blood

I always wonder why people suck the blood off their fingers after they get a cut. I never do it. But I don't know the reason behind why they do that? Does saliva have some healing property?

Actually it's said that saliva has healing properties. Most animals like cows, monkeys, dogs etc heal their wound by licking it. It might be gross for some. But I always do that

Just imagine the wisdom of God. What we think is gross, He put some healing properties there.

I thought it was to get rid of the blood so you can see the wound and see how serious it is. Also I would of thought the plaster would stick better on a dry wound. Though it is probably better to use tissue or something to clean the wound.

@Janet357 I guess it depends if you have a tissue with you. Sometimes you just need to stop bleeding everywhere.

People instinctively suck a finger wound because it can clean out any harmful substances from the wound that whatever caused the cut introduced. Whether that be a splinter, a bit of gravel or even some germs. Normally a person will spit out foreign matter from a wound and even if they swallow the foreign germs, our stomach acid will destroy those.

@Janet357 True, but sometimes gross and nasty, too.

Oh the mention of stomach acid reminded me of the mucus around our stomach wall that protects it from the stomach acid, too much of it. Sounds like this. Our body is a big science. Wonderful creation indeed.

I'd rather lick off the blood than get blood on my clothes or hanky. Mum would always spit on an itch.

okay. I can't lick it though. Maybe some tissue paper I will wipe it with.

i automatically do that when my finger gets cut. i once heard someone said so the blood can get into our body again after it gets out from being cut. i know it's not the real reason, that person is just messing around i think haha

yes. I think most people do that because it is what they see around. But I pass on it.
