Minimum Wage is ... Speaker Pelosi's Conniving Attempt at a Socialist Regime!

... okay, that's mostly 'my outrage at how she apparently doesn't care about those of us who are not paid "a wage"---we who would PAY if the Senate doesn't save us from the hike in minimum wages.' https://youtu.be/iS_Riqo1DhU Because ... Where do you think the money will come-from? You think employers will take LESS money and redistribute their former 'takings' among their employees? (Because we 'know' how employers & CEOs etc. are always complaining about 'how they have TOO MUCH money' ... they're always saying "Oh! If only there were some way we could get rid of all this money!" ) No! It's called Capitalism, not 'Take Care of the Community'-ism (I know that's 'what Socialism is in theory,' but the theory doesn't factor-in "human greed.") If they need more money, they'll either hire fewer workers (which seems less likely than the other option) or charge higher prices. "Well, we'll be able to pay the higher prices because they increase the minimum-wage; right?" Wrong! Retirement- and/or disabled-income DOESN'T increase! So WE pay the wage-increase ... "squeezing blood out of turnips"

Having a decent minimum wage is all about social justice, and I see nothing wrong with that. Actually, if people have a reasonable basic income they will be less of a burden on the state rather than more. They will not need to claim top-up benefits and they will have more spending power, which means that other businesses will benefit as well. It seems to me that the American fear of "Socialism" is just an excuse for making the lives of poor people as miserable as possible. The UK is far from being a Socialist country, but it looks after its people far better than the United States does.

Considering only about 2% of American jobs pay minimum wage and those jobs are entry level or mostly meant for high schoolers as first jobbers what's the point. They are wanting to double our minimum wage, I can see an increase yes but a doubling will only mean cut hours and/or fewer employees. Most jobs pay well beyond minimum as it is and minimum is an incentive to obtain better jobs or move up in position. I do agree with this, "...if people have a reasonable basic income they will be less of a burden on the state rather than more. They will not need to claim top-up benefits and they will have more spending power..."

@Namelesss Yes; I also wanted to ask about that. When did people decide it would be okay to keep grown-up men and women 'working for schoolchildren's wages'?

This is always a problem for the workers, they get meager wages and the necessities of life are always increasing, and it's different from the owners of the companies they work for, they are always confused about how to spend money that doesn't go out, whereas they don't realize that workers they always think how to get enough wages for the ever-increasing necessities of life.
