He said thank you

My boss who didn't show up to work yesterday, showed up today. I thought he's not coming today as well. He thanked me for doing the presentation yesterday in his place. He even asked whether I want to eat anything for lunch. Hmm, is this what they call lip service? Because I am pretty sure he didn't even mean what he said.

Maybe your boss wants to know how far you work.

Most likely not, but take any compliment you can get.

Did you say yes to the suggestion of lunch? And if so was any forthcoming? That's the real test!

I told him he could pay for my food delivery, which he didn't. Ah, well. Not really hoping for it anyway.

@prinzcy Obviously didn't really mean it then. I hate it when people do that.

If you don't really like the boss's attitude, you should just turn it down, maybe that's better.

You should have immediately accepted that offer and then tested him.

Did he offer to PAY for your lunch? If he did, then he might have meant the 'Thank you'. If he didn't offer to pay, then yes, that was lip service and means nothing.

Nope, maybe he purposely forgot. That's okay. I let him work overtime today

I think your boss is just being nice because he is really thankful to have you on his behalf. We don't know his purpose but then, it is nothing wrong to accept it as a kind gesture of him.
