Ok, so not all of it has been rained. We also received 1.6 ft of snow. But that only made matters worse because snow takes longer to dry up than rain. Duh, right!
As I've said here in the past my yard is smack dab in the center of what was a swamp 100years ago. The Corp of Army engineers, Little River Draining District, along with some of the landowners came through and created levy's, ditches, and one of the most impressive diversions of water anyone has ever seen.
The Little River drainage district is in charge of maintaining nearly 540,000 acres and it drains1.2 million acres of The Mississippi river basin swamp land. An area about the size of Delaware.

I kind of got away from my original topic. It just makes me wonder what my back yard would look like if no one tried this drainage system.
Although I worry about the deforestation going on in the world. It's different when it's for farming food. Not destroying trees for a new mall or store to be put up. Or running a oil line through it.
It just strikes me one so much water is diverted through a creek in my backyard, so much responsibility for a Little River, two my kitchen was once part of the Mississippi River, and three if not maintained the MIssissippi River would turn it back int Swamp lands and lose hundreds of thousand of acres of rich farmland.
And this was a great way to keep inside out of the mud cause my yard is scary wet right now.
