Why So Much Hate on TikTok?

Canada

So I recently downloaded the app TikTok to follow a friends son who has basically gone viral on there. He is one funny dude, and has over 500,000 followers. That is like almost the population of ALL Newfoundland!! In Canada there are no earnings to be made from TikTok, I guess Canada does not support that, so for the most part, folks on there from Canada do it for the fun of it I suppose. I happened upon a user from BC, a 63 year old retired teacher who is transgender. In some of his short clips, he explains having lived a life not being true to himself, and how he is now experimenting with different makeup, wigs, dresses etc. He plays music and sits in front of his camera live while he applies makeup. He gets up to 500 or more people joining his live feeds to watch. But more than half of the viewers spew nothing but hate. Telling him he is a waste of skin, that he is not normal, that he will always be a guy, that he should kill himself, that no one cares about him. He appoints supporters in the feed as administrators and they ban the users accordingly. It's a full time job for them! I've seen so much hate on TicTok that I am more than ready to just delete the app and forget I ever had it. Why do people sit behind their keyboards and hurl hate at someone? Are they revealing their true selves? When online, be it Facebook, Instagram, TicTok, MyLot, or anywhere else, if you do not like the content just scroll on by, why do folks need to stop and input such hateful damaging comments to someone they do not even know?

I can't imagine what people get out of hateful behaviour.

What kind of person logs online and feels a need to tell someone their life is useless and they should just kill themselves? that no one will miss them? I can’t even imagine saying that to someone ever. But I know there are many that get a rush out of tearing others down.
