I did a stupid thing

The photo doesn’t really belong but both the photo and the text involve water.
A few days ago, Vince was busy processing photos and I went to Donnybrook on my own to do the shopping. It was raining when I parked but on the running board was a nicely washed $2 coin. It must have stayed all the way from home to town. So that was a nice thing to see.
As the rain wasn’t going to stop, I made a dash for the store, signed in, sanitised my hands and got my shopping. The items had almost all been checked when I realised I didn’t have any money with me. I’ve stopped carrying a handbag as Vince always has his wallet and is always (well, almost always) with me.
As you can imagine, I was very embarrassed but the checkout person was very understanding and the cart was put in the coolroom to await my return. The rain was now pelting down so again I ran to the car, drove 7ms home, returned to the store, ran through the rain, paid for the groceries, ran through the rain and eventually got home. I wonder how long before I do that again.

Let's hope you learned your lesson. Let's also hope you don't get sick from being in and out of that rain.
That happened to me before too, but thankfully it wasn't raining, and I lived right around the corner from the store. They didn't even have to put my groceries in the coolroom. I ran home, grabbed my wallet, and was back in just under 5 minutes.

Hubby has a habit of forgetting his wallet and he is almost always the one driving. It happens. Hope you have dried out by now.

If it’ll make you feel any better....last week I went to one of my favorite restaurants, had my meal, then went to pay for it....and found out I didn’t have my wallet. They said it was fine (because I eat there 2-3 times a week), but I did run home, get my money, and come back and pay them.
I’ve done that, I guess three times (twice at a restaurant and once at the grocery....at least it wasn’t raining when I did the grocery shopping....) in recent memory (5-10 years or so).

You make that sound like an inconvenience... I'm sure she didn't see it that way.

@WorDazza Oh! I'm sure Mother Thumb and her four daughters understood. And may forgive you some day.

@DaddyEvil It was a huge inconvenience. When Mrs. WorDazza goes shopping it's the only time I get to spend with my mistress.

I hope you never do it again. It takes a lot out of a person.

You always feel as though you're the only person who has ever done such a thing.

Oh Lordy, I have done that. Usually I have my wallet with me, but I have taken out of my purse getting somthing out of it, and I find it on the seat of the car. Another thing that has happened is being in the store, having my wallet, but not the card I need. Usually luckily though, I have my checkbook with me for such issues.

It's always good to have an option. I didn't put it in the text but when I did use my card, I couldn't remember whether it was 'credit' or 'saving'. I think that upset me more than anything - that I could get so confused. I was able to tap my card and I knew my pin so all was well but I did feel so stupid.

Well, you found $2, so worth it... You got plenty of exercise, so worth it... You got out of the house, so worth it... You got the groceries you needed, so worth it... You got several extra showers, so Vince probably considered it worth it.

@JudyEv Unfortunately, that's true... I'm still glad you got it finished, though.

That's horribly embarrassing but it must happen all the time. I wonder if it's possible to call home and get someone at home to pay over the phone?
I did this a while ago when I had taken my card out to pay for something online, then I left it on the desk. When I got to the checkout I had my wallet and everything as usual - but my card wasn't in it. Thankfully I managed to just scrape enough cash together because I hadn't done a huge amount of shopping, and I did have my wallet where I always keep an emergency £20 note, as well my cash purse which had a bit of change in it. But it was a horrible heart-sinking moment when I went to get my card and it wasn't there : (

Stores here won't let anyone pay over the phone for a physical shopping trip. Although, if you order your purchases for pick-up you can pay over the phone when you order the items.
The stores worry that the person having someone pay for items someone is in the store picking up are using a stolen credit/debit card. Personally, I think it is just as possible for someone ordering items over the phone to pick up later could also be using a stolen credit/debit card, but that is allowed. It makes no sense to me.

@Fleura I don't put up with nonsense like that. I would have kept the woman's attention while I stood in front of her until she answered the phone. If she didn't pick up while I was standing in front of her I would have LOUDLY told them to answer their phone! I get upset quickly at stupidity.

@DaddyEvil I thought it wouldn't be allowed, though as you say I can't think of any sensible reason why. I guess some places just have stupid rules.
Reminds me of the doctor's surgery. I called in one time to make an appointment (this was a few years ago, pre Covid). I was told I could only make an appointment over the phone. So I got out my phone and called the number while standing there in the entry, and got the recorded message saying how all the receptionists were busy etc etc, and all the time I could see them through the glass window gossiping (yes I could hear them too - they were not discussing surgery matters!) while the phones were ringing.

That was very unfortunate - to be rushing home in the heavy rain and coming back for your purchase. That was kind of the storekeeper though to put aside the items for you.

@JudyEv Here we must carry it. My daughter has a leather attachment that sits in the back of her smartphone and it has her license and a debit card so she is always prepared, my son Steve has the same thing.

And that is exactly how I live in Latvia with my Martin, He carried the wallet and I just tagged along, So when I did go out by myself I always remembered two things my wallet and my mobile phone because on the return journey since we had no car he would come to the bus stop to get me so he could help me carry the groceries the rest of the way home, I was good so now you know how lost I feel,

I have had that happen once. But in my case, it wasn't groceries. It was some sunburn stuff and a man in line offered to buy for it. My mother actually had stole my money.
