one of my favorite books is gone with the wind.i guess i liked the book becusae of its realistic viewpoint instead of glossing over.generally when we read books esp ones with romance the book more or less glosses over the persons shortcomings but this book did just the opposite.instead of glossing over them it just bought it into sharp focus and made us understand that all of us have these shortcomings of character in one form or the other.many were able to identify with this book as a result of that.
the book is all about a genteel girl scarlett o'hara and quest for love and the journey it makes her take.
hers is the best of all the characters in the book, scarlett brings life to the whole book.all in al this book is a must read so if u have not read it then please read it and then see the movie.you will enjoy yourself!
happy reading folks!

I absolutely love Gone with the Wind, book and movie. One thing that just kills me about the book is the very first line, "Scarlett O'Hara was not beautiful." I love that she has such a way of flirting and charming that most people don't realize that she's not stunningly beautiful.
There is a wonderful documentary about the making of the movie. I once caught it coming on Turner Classic Movies followed by a screening of the movie itself so I taped both, and I've watched both repeatedly.

Well,I like the book, although I can't say it's my favourite book.I have read it and I have seen the film too. It's a good book, the best from all Margaret Mitchell's creation but I can't say it's wonderful.I wanted a happy end. Scarlett should have remained with Reth. But,that's life!

I love Gone With the Wind, and I've read it many times. I've also seen the movie several times although it isn't nearly as good as the book, as most movies aren't.
Books set during the US Civil War are among my favorites. However, readers of Gone With the Wind have to realize that as history the book is not always very accurate. I remember back in high school, we were studying the Civil War. I hadn't done the assigned reading, and we were given a quiz. So, I used Gone With the Wind info as my source. My teacher had a heyday tearing what I wrote apart and asking me where I'd gotten that stuff from. I never told.

You could probably buy the movie pretty cheap on ebay or half.com. It would definitely be worth it, it is a movie you will watch over and over again.

I've loved that movie for years but only just recently read the book. I'm so glad I did. It made me appreciate it that much more. The casting was impeccable and they did a great job of condescing the 1000 page book into something managable. But getting back to the book, it's just so good. You're right. They certainly don't shrink from showing us Scarlett's shortcomings and it makes the book that much more interesting. She's incredibly flawed. Actually all of the characters are (except for Melanie maybe!) & it's just fascinating to watch all of the relationships unfold.

This is my all time favorite book. The thing that I love about it is the way it changes and moves you in different ways. I read it for the first time when I was 13 and I loved Ashley Wilkes, I thought he said the most romantic things, and I skipped most of the war parts. I have read this book at least once a year since then and I am always finding something I did not notice before. I use to hate Melanie, now I love every character, every word, there is not a part to it that I find boring.

I have read it and also seen the movie. I enjoyed both, and especially fell in love with Vivien Leigh (I wasn't even born when the movie was made, but I saw it during my early teens, I think by then Vivien must be in her late 40's or early 50's). Ihave a paperback copy somewhere or the other and after participating in this and another discussions on this feel the urge to find it and reread it. I must have read it over 20 years ago.

Oh, I have not read this book yet. I've heard this book is great! I feel bad that I haven't got a chance to read this. What I am reading most of the time is inspirational and self help non fictions books by Og Mandino and Napoleon Hill. Will search that book online and see how much that cost.

I like to watch the movie especially the gowns that the ladies are wearing. They are so beautiful..
I also have the book. It was quite expensive but I managed to get it from the Payless bookshop, hard cover some more.

Gone with the wind is a great movie and a great book. The writing and acting are great in both. I read it at least once every year. Has anyone read the sequel called "Scarlett" by Alexandra Ripley? I thought it was a good continuation of Scarlett's story.
