Question about the maneuverability test

United States
March 9, 2021 4:03pm CST
My son is preparing to take a maneuverability test so he can finally get his driver's license. It had been way too long since I took the test and I know absolutely you can not stop the car, but are you allowed to brake without stopping? I looked at the book and I have searched online and can't find the answers, though I found lots of good tips to pass this test.

A rolling stop? Yeah, no... every state is going to be different, but he should definitely stop at all stop signs no matter what. That's what I was told "It doesn't matter what everyone else does or what is the general rule, stop at all stop signs while doing the test"

This is the maneuverability test and I know that you are not allowed to stop or you will either get points off or fail. He already past the road test and is a really good driver, but he has to pass this test to get his license.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Seriously? You don't have to take a maneuverability or parallel parking test? I had to look twice to see if you were even in the United States, I thought everyone in this country had to take one or the other. You are very fortunate, that was the most scariest part of the test for me.

That's okay, Judy had the idea to call, which I hope the website has a number to call. According to my daughter he can't brake at all, but I have seen websites that say you can ride the brake if you need to. I just want him to pass so I don't have to go everywhere with him anymore.

@DaddyEvil He isn't refusing, but he does procrastinate, which I can't blame him too much, he takes it from his dad. But if he wants to take his girl out, he will have to get his license or take me with him, which I am sure he doesn't want to do.

@Carmelanirel2 I hope you get the information you need. And I do understand... My daughter just turned 33 and still refuses to get her driver's license.

Really? They didn't used to do it, but around the time I was getting my license. It replaced parallel parking, which I think would be harder.

@shaggin I think I like the maneuverability test better, then again that is what I did, I didn't have to parallel park.

@changjiangzhibin89 He did pass, thank you and yes, he was supposed to go to college where he had a scholarship. However, due to covid, when he went to sign up, all but one class was at the school, he knew he couldn't pass the online class. So he wanted to wait until the next semester and by the time the time came he found a job and is no longer interested in higher education.

Hi @changjiangzhibin89, as usual I am so happy to see you are still here. I am doing well, but so busy. I need to get my son ready to pass his driving test because I get up over an hour early to take him to work and it is wearing me down. Hopefully within a couple weeks if not sooner that will be in the past.

Each state has different rules about this. Look up "rolling stop" for your state to find out.

THANK YOU! If there was a way to select best answer, yours would be it. I kept using words like "allowed to brake but not stop" and found no help, but when I plugged in rolling stop, I got a site that says to control speed, one is allowed to brake when necessary.
