Couple of years ago we had a cruise fronm Buenos Aires around Cape horn to Chile.. I know we did not have time to research the continent, but we had really good experience and got the idea that they were not much interested in what was happening up north and it was not particularly interesting to them. It seemed good to me.

It depends on who do you talk with. I followed the US elections a lot closer than many US citizens. And in my experience, many people from the US are not much interested in the State next to theirs. Cape Horn is not Chile as the Native American we once met in our trips to the US was not the typical American. He was old and did not speak English. But as we took him near his abode, we used sign language and could communicate. It was a very interesting experience.
