Is this the time for men to change their ways?

The death of Sarah Everard, abducted on a London street and then murdered, has shocked everyone in the UK - especially as the person charged with the crime is a serving Police Officer (off-duty at the time). Hundreds of women have come forward with stories of how they have been followed by unknown men, and some have suffered abuse at their hands - either verbally or by inappropriate touching. Surely it is time for all this to change. Why should women have to feel that they are unsafe in public places? Why should they always have to think about who might be following them in the street and whether the man close behind them is a potential threat? Why should they have to put up with wolf-whistles and comments of a sexual nature from perfect strangers? What is needed is for men to start to appreciate just how much anxiety they are causing to women when they behave in these ways. They may think it is just a "bit of banter", but most women do not see it that way. The Sarah Everard case is bound to make women more nervous about walking home on their own, and they do not deserve this. So now - men of all ages and nationalities - it is time to ask yourself if your behaviour towards women is what it should be. And if the answer is no - do something about it!

Good for you. It really is time for men to change their attitudes. Everyone should respect others but it doesn't seem to happen.

Thank you. I feel very strongly that it is men who should be saying this, because we have been silent for far too long.

Something we Indian women have suffered since long but human rights activists seem to be more concerned about rights of the prisoners.

It is important that all human rights issues are addressed.

@indexer True. But women's issues are never taken to conclusion. I am for withdrawal of rights to hold properties take up government jobs or positions, for the person and his or her family too. But I am thinking from Indian perspective.
