I Was Shocked By The Estimate for Repairs!

The water pipes in my old house were victims of the arctic blast/blizzard that hit much of the US about three weeks ago. Many of them burst after being frozen solid in sub-zero (F) temps. A lot of folks across the country had similar damage.
A plumbing company came to assess my situation. The next morning, they sent an estimate for the repairs/pipe replacement via email.
It was early and I wasn't fully awake when I saw the email with the subject line: "Estimate 323159". I almost spilled my coffee! WHAT?!
Oh, that was just the invoice number. Hahaa.
It's going to cost a lot, but not nearly that much!
I'm trying to remember that this is a mini-crisis and maintain my sense of humor about it.
Does anyone on myLot know much about Pex pipe? That's what I'm having installed. Thank you.

Hi Diana, That is so terrible to hear! All the plumbers around me are now using the Pex piping- the red/blue piping. It now has a long history of being good stuff. I think the plumbers can install it easier in older homes too. I bet it is tough having your water shut-off for so long and having to bring in water? I hope all goes well with the new plumbing installation! Take Care, Randy

Hi @randytoo. Thanks for your kind comments. You seem strangely familiar to me.
It is inconvenient to be without water, but I've had help from family and a generous friend. At least it isn't cold now, so that helps too.
Welcome to myLot!

I have never heard about Pex pipe, However, I do know about old pipes. The old pipes in my old house in Latvia burst during my last cold winter there and I had no water so always had to purchase some. I was lucky to be able to sell the house with no water because there would have been no point in me spending the money to get it fixed since the pipes ran all through the old cellar,

Thanks for sharing about your experience @RasmaSandra.
Yes, home ownership certainly comes with many financial decisions on a regular basis.

Thank you @DianneN. Yes, I did lose power for a couple of hours. You're right, I will submit a claim to my insurance company.

@BloggerDi Sometimes it's worth paying a little extra for the right materials.

Hi @JudyEv. Thanks! Pex pipe is flexible and it's not likely to change with extreme cold weather. I'm looking at this pipe replacement as a long-term investment in my house/future.

I am clueless about PEX but I am glad you can get someone to fix your burst pipes. I would have gagged at that number as well if I was not aware it was an invoice.

I know nothing about it, but the cost to fix anything is high. Rediciliously so. Good luck to you.

Thanks @RebeccasFarm. It was just a little more than I guessed it would be. I'll just say that I'm glad this type of expense is not a frequent occurrence!
