Self-care!

For over two years, I worked as a House parent in one of our "Non Government Organization "(NGO) funded center or shelter for abused girls in our province. Every year each teams working in the center is given a day off for "self-care" to shake off all kinds of negativity from our very stressful and demanding jobs.
Have you thought of having "self-care" as a team, as a family or by yourself? How do you want it?

@jobelbojel It was my first and last experience to have a body massage. You want to have one for your self-care? sure but not now because of the pandemic.

@gamayngbaki Tell me about it. I hardly ever have the time or energy left to make for it but I do try to at least once per week.

Never giving yourself a "me-time " or "self-care" will most likely lead to a burn out.

By myself. I usually go to a spa and get the most relaxing skin care treatment.

At the center for girls where I used to work before self care was very important for every staff as a team and as an individual during our days off.

You have to intentionally schedule your "me-time". Don't procrastinate because if you do you might burn out.

@gamayngbaki Were you burnt out after your two years? I should think you would be.

@JudyEv No not at all but I just felt frustrated at times with the rules inside the center.

It wasn't a very easy job to do. We were at risk of being attacked by the girls during their tantrum periods that's why the need for self-care is important.

I agree with you!. During this pandemic it is important that we take care of ourselves. It should not be all work!

Yes only one day as a group or as a team but every time we have our days off we are all told or advised to go out or visit and hang out with a friend.

Do you get paid for working as House Parent
I was part of an NGO, they used to say, the amount which we bring in gets utilized totally to the old aged people, and we can't afford to pay us. So later I quite.
I usually sleep as part of self care. And usually chat with my friends

All the staff members working in that center were paid employees. Only the mentors were volunteers. All the staff there were advised to spend time with friends during days off for our mental health.

That's really cool that you did that, it must have been stressful but rewarding. And nice that you got a self care day as when you have a stressful job it's important to de-stress every now and then.

Yes my job then was really stressful. Without having breaks for self care we might come to work all wound up and loose our patience and temper with the girls. It would mean reprimand or termination.
