A friend's news

Well friends, I got the go ahead to share with our mutual friend group, and by association I assume it is fine to share with you all too, since you don't know her... One of my closest friends got diagnosed with lung cancer. She understands me the best of my non-family friends. Pre-pandemic we would see each other 2-3 times a week. After pandemic we would talk once a week. She's helped me get through this, and she's helped me be a better person. I am getting updates from her family, but it's all inconsistent. I don't really hear from my friend much, because she isn't feeling well enough. It just shocks me. Flat out shocks me. I saw her back in October. She was fine. Her same old self. I remember a discussion from 3 months ago, and she was her same old self then, fiery, passionate, energetic. In this amount of time she's gone from that - to sleeping , unable to cook by herself, being on the phone is too much energy, etc. Apparently she's down to 90 some pounds. That makes me sad. Well, on the up side, she's a small person, anyway and short.... but still, that is a bit too tiny for an adult. It's stage 4 lung tumor, and I guess it was binding off her esophagus and right bronchus .... but according to the most recent update I got from her son - the treatments are working and causing the tumor to shrink. I'm sad. I'm worried. But both of those things won't help my friend any. I went with my larger group of friends - and we got her a plant (an orchid) and a grocery gift card (for her son who is staying there with her) . I plan to write a letter. I'm sad to say that in the back in my mind it is a letter telling her everything I want her to know. Incase the worst. But I will not word it that way. I will write it to be inspiring and uplifting. Sigh Be thankful for your and your loved one's health

I am so sorry, and I do hope your friend will recover. Unfortunately, my dad has dementia like yours did, and although he is much easier to be around..it seems to be taking a real physical toll on him. Although when I was talking to him last time about a week ago, he says he is feeling great...and denied any mobility issues...hmmm.

Thank you.... And I'm sorry to hear about your dad. My friend who worked for nursing homes said that on top of what they go through mentally , the disease seems to weaken them physically too. Treasure the time with him

@FayeHazel Yes, my uncle and grandmother had it. They were diagnosed with Alz, not sure my dad has been formerly diagnosed with that though. Six of one, half dozen of another I guess. The worst thing now is that he is picking at his skin and has been doing that for awhile. I told my mother there is medicine for that and and got one of those fidget spinners for him. I told her if this doesn't keep him from doing it she needs to try to get medication from the doctor. It is a compulsion.

@snowy22315 So sorry. It's a sad illness. I hope there's a cure someday. My dad (likely) had something called Lewy Body Dementia. Didn't get the diagnosis until he passed though. I hope your dad doesn't make sores or anything. The fidget spinner was a good thought

@FayeHazel thank you. It was bad. He didn't even tell anyone until months before he passed. And it spread from his lungs to his brain.

Quite a few lung cancer cases never smoked or in contact to anyone who smoked. Guess your friend doesn't smoke either? Hope the treatments work well on your friend's case.
