Would you grow something from a mere bulb or caudex?
Stephanie Erecta is also known as a potato plant because of its caudex that looks just like a potato. I purchased a dormant caudex last December. It did really look like a potato even the texture. Placed it on top of a succulent mix in a 3x3 pot and covered only 1/3 of the caudex.
For three weeks there was nothing, it stayed dormant. So i placed it next to my humidifier. Watered it only once a week making sure the caudex stayed hard and not soft.
After almost two months, i saw a green thing sprouting from the top and i knew my potato plant was sprouting. From then on the stem became longer and longer.
Now i’m just waiting for the leaf to grow bigger because at the moment it’s so tiny you can hardly see it.
I think i might buy more plants like this. What do you think?

It actually already has leaves but you can’t see it coz it’s too tiny. I will try to attach a macro shot of the leaf here.

@DianneN This plant is considered a succulent to it shouldn’t be watered often if you want it to live. And it’s could stem without soil. All you need is pumice. No dirt needed!

Yes I'm growing my Stephania Erecta and can't wait for the leaves to grow bigger. They're a also grower. But it started from a dormant bulb so it's ok. I can patiently wait. The beauty of this plant is all worth it.

@toniganzon I will look it up online. Good luck. I’d probably kill it.

@stanley777 You might be someone who likes watering plants a lot. Succulents are the type of plants that should be ignored. When you ignore them, they thrive. And they survive in sandy soil.

No it doesn’t. Succulents thrive well in the Philippines and so does this plant.

It's gonna grow that's for sure. My supposedly small hydroponic pots didn't work as the seeds didn't grow from my pots.

I thought you will talk about growing potatoes to eat. I have done that few times in pots and it was successful. You should soon be seeing leaves there

Mongo bean. We had to grow that too from different medium like moist cotton. They can grow pretty quickly.

The fact that it already sprouted makes this plant already stable. And there are so many varieties i can have.
