Back when I had some good Abalone

A long time ago I used to take care of a guy in a wheelchair; his Dad had a nice place in the woods along the coast and we'd go out there every summer and have fun; it had a deck and a gas barbecue and a nice big yard where we'd have bonfires and drink beer and smoke a little you-know-what. Anyway, his Dad had a friend who dove for abalone, these big shellfish that are rare and almost a delicacy; usually very expensive. They left us a bunch of them in the freezer; my client showed me how to make them; pound them hard with a mallet because otherwise they're too tough; dipped them in egg and then crushed up crackers and fried them. They were delicious, I can tell you that. Last time I went to a restaurant I think a plate of them cost $40. Realized how awesome it was that I got to have them out there at my client's Dad's cabin.
