The rain won last night. I thought we’d escape, with all the severe thunderstorm warnings and lightning warnings well away from us. But no, the rain (more significantly, the lightning) came, and we postponed the first tournament of the year. It was still great to see a couple of the guys and at least hit a few balls. There’s always next week! And there’s always the next song on the list of favorites with “fool” in the title, in honor of April Fools day. Country music warning.....
#9: A Fool Never Learns - Wilburn Brothers
There are only two more country songs on the list....and if you don’t like this you can go find Andy Williams’ pop rendition.
Every time the subject of the Country Music Hall of Fame comes up, I point to Teddy and Doyle Wilburn as one of the most glaring omissions. They had one of the earliest syndicated TV shows in country music, they were one of the mainstays in publishing in addition to their own career, and oh yeah, their show’s “girl singer” got her start there: some near-birthday girl named Loretta Lynn.
Well, it might happen, but as I get older I realize probably not in my lifetime unless they have another “big induction” year. Meanwhile, I’ll just celebrate the fact that I came along at the right time to enjoy these two guys and their terrific career.
