Working out more again

So some time ago I used to do Karate consistently and quite a bit; actually a lot. For many years. I would do it anywhere between 3 to 6 days a week, hours on each day; either teaching or working out; which includes some pretty rough, strenuous workouts. Anyway, after many different set backs, including my mother getting dementia and me taking care of her 24 hours a day, then when I wasn't doing that having other extreme stress that was work related, and then being hospitalized about a year ago and still having on-going breathing problems; well, I kind of stopped working out. I need to get my health back. Just a little bit ago I lied down for a nap and started having these thoughts of death that I've been having lately and I popped up and did some Karate - a modified workout because my health is not what it used to be and I'm out of shape. I've been doing this lately; working out when I start having these thoughts of dread. I feel like my brain and body - or you could also say me - are telling me to build myself back up, get healthy again. I need to.

I too used to do and teach karate. I still turn to it for exercise at times. But also like you, my health is not what it used to be. Both my knees are messed up, And on top of that, I have heart issues. I find it is very easy to slip into a depressive state. I continue to focus on those things that make me feel good, I do what exercise my knees will allow. (Riding an exercise bike has helped me tremendously) If the negative thought patterns persist I might recommend finding a counselor to talk to about them. They might be able to arm you with a few more tools to turn them aside.

Yes, I have been seriously considering counseling. They offer it through my job, just haven't called yet.

@cperry2 Yes well that's my hesitation; I've had some pretty bad ineffectual counselors in the past. Thanks, Clint.

@NateB11 I've been through it, there are some really good people out there that can guide you. (there are also a few who should find other jobs so be sure to check them out before you go.) Good luck

Please do so!!! It sounds like it has a phenomenal impact on your physical AND emotional well being. I agree that when I am being the healthiest of all, I am FEELING the best - when I do cardio and when my eating is in line.

i hope this helps but try to do some meditation and you can start from sitting workouts or 2minute ones. try thinking positively and think of the best thing to happen. If u still dont feel motivated you can watch motivational speeches. They actually work!
