Tally Ho Old Chap! What do people think about your country?

I'm from the UK, so people think we're one of two things: Tea sipping Downton Abbey types or rhyming slang chimney sweeps ready to burst into song at a moments notice.
There's really no middle ground that I've seen. So what stereotypes are there about your country and does it annoy you when people think the way they do?

You've mentioned in your post that you're from the UK, but it would be a good idea if you mentioned it on your profile site, too, or is there a special reason that you want to keep it secret?
You only have to watch British comedy shows or films in which Germans are shown to understand that for many Brits the war is not over even after 76 years. The typical German is a Nazi and for some reason the audiences of such shows find this hilarious. I used to listen to BBC4 a lot but gave up because the whole thing is really too retarded. The reason for this behaviour must be the fact that although Germany lost the war, it's more successful now economically than Great Britain.
If this annoyed me, my annoyance would never end. How many Brits have visited Germany, know Germans, know the German language? The percentage is minimal. I'm with Einstein on this topic who is said to have said, "Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I’m not sure about th’universe!"

Yes I shamefully have to agree with you. It's terrible because it's still as though racism towards Germans is allowed in the UK. But if Germans had dark skin there is no way it would be tolerated. When it shouldn't be tolerated at all. Incidentally I do speak German fairly well. And maybe keeping my British-ness a secret might be best given our rampant tendencies towards racial stereotyping!

@Lindalahughes i don't think racism, segregation and differences can work now and people who do that are evil, because we should show love to everyone besides their difference as we set to live peaceful.
and we should not compare our countries to the other because in other way round every country is gifted somehow better than the other one,so if we do so it is like we are competing in the world which we leave and everything remains.

@Kumukyawaliz You're absolutely right. Racism is evil and we should celebrate our differences not hate each other for them.

I'm from the UK too. I think people are looking down on us because we've left the EU. What do you think?

I can tell you that Germans don't look down on the Brits for leaving the EU. The topic isn't discussed any more. The EU as a whole hasn't suffered because the Brits didn't want to stay.
I think that the prevailing opinion here is that the Brits have shot themselves in the foot. Economically, Germany is better off than Great Britain, so it's their loss.

I think so, but then Americans voted for Trump so it won't be the craziest thing a nation did. I'm a remainer but it is what it is and legally binding and all that.

I have heard this stereotype before. My father is from Bangalore so he even still gets a lot of racism directed at him.
