Is racism all the same or is some worse than others?

My wife and I were having a discussion recently, I said that racism is racism no matter what. She disagreed and said some racism was worse than others. What do you think? Is some racism worse than others? And if so what makes it worse?

@Rashnag are you experiencing that the discussions are getting deleted here today. It's happening with me since morning today. I feel little frustrated.

I think, that sometimes, things that are tagged today as racist, are merely examples of insensitivity, ignorance or thoughtlessness. The other day, for example, my husband was speaking to a customer service person on the phone, she asked if "Dave' was short for 'something else'. His reaction, without thinking, was to be a little affronted. Like, how could you not know that? But really, why should someone know? Just because we live in a certain society, not everyone is from the same background. We live in a very multi-cultural society - there are a lot of names I can't even be sure how to pronounce. So, it is possible I may not know or recognize a name that is very common for people of MY background, but that may sound very 'foreign' to someone from a different background. We need to do, as the Bible wisely states: 'Do not become quick to take offense....' and try not to assume the worst of others. Taking a minute to think about it. Does someone REALLY intend to be rude or offensive? I'll bet most people simply just didn't think, or they misspoke.

@Lindalahughes I think what it says at Ecclesiastes 7:21-22 is good for me, when I start thinking a bit too much of my feelings: 21 Do not take to heart all the things that people say, lest you hear your servant cursing you. 22 Your heart knows that many times you yourself have cursed others. Its so true - easy to forget, we all blunder with our words.

That's very true. Sometimes people don't mean to offend they're just a little clumsy with their words. Incidentally, sometimes names like his aren't shortened. My friend's son is named Charlie and everyone thinks his name is Charles but it's not.

You are correct, racism is racism. It doesn't matter who is racist or who the racism is against. It's always delusional, self-centered, immature, prejudice and divisive.

If you kill someone simply for being a specific race then that is worse than calling them a name...

It depends where you are, but what you see as simple racism can be the worst for the person, whatever you see as simple can be worse than others in those conditions

Preferring one race over another is as natural as the day is long. Racism isn't the problem. You would have to define your definition of racism for me to give an opinion on it. Seems there is no clear definition (as is often the case when words are made up).
