In the race to get their populations vaccinated, some countries are doing better than others. No country is fully vaccinated yet, but one, Gibraltar, a British territory located at the southern tip of Spain, is very close and will no doubt win the race. Everyone in Gibraltar has received at least one dose of the COVID vaccine, That means everyone already has a good deal of immunity, because with the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, you are already at 80% immunity two weeks after your first shot. But even better, 90.2% of Gibraltar's population has been FULLY vaccinated. Gibraltar's total population is a little over 33,700. I am assuming that the data I am looking at is only showing those who are eligible for the vaccine. Presently, it is everyone who is 16 years of age or older, but Pfizer will be seeking approval for 12-15-year-olds to receive its vaccine, as well. Currently, the only other country who has fully vaccinated over half of their population is Israel, at 57.4%. Several other countries are close: Falkland Islands (49.3%), Seychelles (46.7%), and Cayman Islands (41.5%). It seems if you live on an island, you have an advantage! Those are all pretty small places, though. Where do the very large countries stand? In the United States, we have about a quarter (24.7%) of our population fully vaccinated. Russia is only at 4%, India is at 1.2%, and Canada is 2.4% (however, Canada pursued a different strategy of getting as many people their first dose as possible, so they have an additional 21% partially immunized. China, the "hermit kingdom", isn't reporting its figures.

@AliCanary We have a good Governor and an "aware" populace. I read that in some mostly rural states, some folks are still resistant.

@TheHorse yes, it's a real pickle in some places. We're doing okay in NC; we're the 9th most populous state, but we're 40th in COVID deaths per million. Our governor is a good guy. There are definitely pockets of resistance in the rural areas, though.

Yes, some states are very good, but the states that are bad are bringing down the average.

It will be interesting to see what will happen in a county that is fully vaccinated. I hope things work out well!

Yes, Gibraltar is actually over 100% now (not sure how that works--maybe people came from other countries, and they are just counting how many vaccinations they gave out). I just checked the Worldometer site, and Gibraltar currently has 215 active cases. Only 2 of those are serious, though, so it seems the vaccine is protecting people pretty well.

This new Delta variant is really making that hard. Even Australia, which seemed safe before, is having to go back into lockdown!

The data has improved since you reported this, but I wish more in the US would get vaccinated.

Yes, it's really going to cause problems - it just keeps the pandemic going, and the longer it goes, the more dangerous mutations can be created. I just don't understand people.

Yeah, I think everyone who wants to be vaccinated can get one, but the problem is the people who don't want one :(

@AliCanary Yeah, I don't get the ones that don't want the vaccine. Maybe they're afraid of it. I don't know.

That's distressing. I hope the regular citizens are getting vaccinated now.
