A cute Japanese sweet treat!

April 22, 2021 10:06am CST
This is Wagashi, a traditional Japanese confections that are often served with green tea, especially the types made of mochi, anko (azuki bean paste), and fruit. Wagashi are typically made from plant-based ingredients. I love how Japan makes their treat so pretty you won't even be able to eat them without feeling a little guilty. I haven't tried them but I can taste them in my mouth. Have you ever tried them?

I have tried mochi but not these. Perhaps they can be found in Japantown.

@arunahara yes, that is true. They have some embellishment.

Hmmm, maybe they taste similar to mochi because the ingredients are the same.

I grew up on these, but they were not as fancy as the ones pictured here. At our house we called them "manju" (not sure of the technical differences). We never made them, but there are specialty shops that make them . . . it was a drive to get there, so it was a treat!
