Disaster with the vinegar!

Today I had a disaster with the vinegar! It was after my lunch, about 1:30pm, and I decided to put some more biscuits in the biscuit tin. We have two biscuit tins, a round one which holds the biscuits we are currently eating, and a long thin one that holds the biscuits that are waiting to be opened. My ginger nut biscuits were running out, so I was going to take a packet of ginger nuts out of the long thin biscuit tin and put them into the round biscuit tin. The packets of biscuits won't fit in the round biscuit tin whole, so we have to cut the packet down the middle with a serrated knife, and then separate the two halves with a pair of scissors, and then put the two halves in the round biscuit tin open ends up. The aforementioned vinegar was standing on the work surface in front of where the long thin biscuit tin is kept. So I went into the kitchen to sort out the biscuits, and I lifted up the long thin biscuit tin, and as I was moving the tin it caught the bottle of vinegar and sent it crashing to the floor! Shards of glass and vinegar everywhere! I went and told my mother I'd broken the vinegar, all over the kitchen floor! We went to clear up the mess. We soaked up the spillage using kitchen towels and newspapers. Then I picked up a few shards of glass carefully, and then swept up the rest with the long handled dustpan and brush. We were still finding shards of glass hours afterwards, and we even found some shards on the carpet in the living room. I said to my Mum, How did they get there? They had to have flown round corners for it to have landed there! They do say, don't they, that vinegar can help clean things? Well, it seems to have worked on the kitchen floor! The patches where the vinegar landed seem to be a lot brighter and cleaner! Have you had something exciting or strange happen to you recently? Best wishes to everyone and have a great night.

Our vinegar is in plastic bottle, so that would not happen here. What a mess to clean

Good idea to have vinegar in plastic bottles! It would have just bounced!

It wasn't too hard to clean actually. We just put down kitchen towels and newspaper and it just soaked it up. The hard bit was finding all the shards of glass to sweep them up.

@sharonelton NO it is not at all good vinegar in plastic bottles. Vinegar stores in plastic, leaches toxic levels of antimony into the vinegar itself long before the stated expiration date. I never buy vinegar in plastic.

The vinegar cleans, but it also corrodes, I would not be happy if it spilled on my marble counter top.

@sharonelton There are things that you should never clean with vinegar, it is a pretty strong acid that can corrode or react with many common materials.

It was a bit shocking when it first happened! You know, I knocked a bottle of vinegar into a fridge in a co-op once when I was working there on YTS work placement, that smashed and the vinegar froze! That was even worse to clean up!

Oh my, the whole kitchen must have smelled vinegar. I think such thing happened to me but not vinegar but it is also a condiment. not to clear to me if it was a soy sauce.

You're not wrong! The whole kitchen did smell of vinegar! Wouldn't soy sauce be stickier if dropped on the floor?

Maybe the glass fell when you brought it?

I used a vacuum cleaner to get all the glass that I recently busted. There wasn't any liquid in the jar that shattered thankfully so it was an easy job. Oh yes, vinegar is really good at cleaning things up.
