Disability Placard

This past Thursday I went to get my disable placard to use for my car. Never had one before. I never thought of getting one until now. However... My mobility is somewhat slowing down, so I felt like I needed it now.
Yesterday was the very first day since the pandemic started, that I actually spent some time shopping, other than online. I was out for about 4 hours getting various things I needed.
Up until yesterday... Due to the pandemic, I only used a little over a tank of gas for the entire past 14 months. So this was the most gas I used at once in a very long time.
I also picked up my twin's birthday buddy gift. We met in Franklin, TN a couple of decades ago. After our first encounter we found out that we shared the exact same birth date.
We immediately hit it off and have stayed good friends ever since. Even though she is a couple of years older than I am, she is like a twin sister to me. Stuck with me through all the good and bad times.
I am one that does not like giving the same and/or similar gifts each time. It takes away from the element of surprise. Which is half of the fun of getting something. Right? Even though what I did get was nothing new where gifts are concerned; this gal has never received one from me.
Anyway... As I pulled up to each parking lot yesterday, I had to remind myself that I could park in the disabled reserved spots. At first it felt weird. But by the end of the day...I felt almost like royalty. Though I hate being disabled, it almost kind of made me feel special. LOL

My husband will get frusterated sometimes, because the process of getting the plaque is so time-consuming. All the steps and such to get it. But, then when it's over he realizes why I get it. I'm in a wheelchair and using the disabled parking makes it easier for me and for him. Provided we don't get some a-hole who decides that the stripes next to disabled parking, mean you can park however you want.

Not sure what the criteria for your state is... But since I am already declared disabled by the government...all I had to do was get my primary to fill out a form. Then I set an appointment with DMV. They enter all the info from the form they filled out, so they can verify it with my doctor if needed.
Then before I walk out the door they hand me the placard, and the registration in case law enforcement and/or security needs me to prove that I am legally allowed to have it, and that I am not using someone else's.
I was told I need to keep the registration with me at all times with the placard. Since I really don't ride with people much, I keep it in my car. In Florida it is good for four years. Then I have to go through the entire process all over again. Luckily it is free to get.

I understand, nice parking, but wish I didn't need it. Your friend will be happy to hear from you & be gifted too. Good to have that kind of friend. I bus, got Senior bus pass, only $35 a year where as I paid $70 a month for regular bus pass. I couldn't wait to get my Senior Citizen Bus pass, price wise, but it means I'm older now. So I know how you feel.
