Origin of your nickname

Online people tend to use nicknames for privacy purposes, preferences and personal choice among other reasons. My question is, how do you get your nickname? Is it by any way related to your real name or just out of the blue? Like for me I would use Laurie or Lau the latter is what am called all over since childhood. What about you?

IRL I do use a nickname, Online I use a totally different name than I use in real life.

@Laurakemunto To protect myself. I'm honest about almost everything else, age, birth date and so on. I just don't want people to know who I am. Especially on a message board or blog site. Online, I cn be who I want. If I need to fill out a form, so I get stuff sent to me or sign up for a service then yes.... I'll use my real name in that instance. Everywhere else, no.

My daughter gave me the name Daddy Evil when we first started working online in 2000. She chose the name Pretty Evil for her online name and when she'd talk about me on the site she'd call me Daddy Evil. I've used it ever since.

@Laurakemunto I don't know about that. She chose her name because it has two meanings... She is pretty and can be evil. And it was the name of a fighter she really liked in our history.
