Anton Szandor LaVey (11 April 1930 – 29 October 1997) was the founder and High Priest of the Church of Satan as well as a writer, occultist, musician, and actor. He is the author of The Satanic Bible and the founder of Satanism, a synthesized system of his understanding of human nature and the insights of philosophers who advocated materialism and individualism, for which he claimed no "supernatural inspiration”. LaVey viewed "Satan" not as a literal deity or entity, but as an historic and literary figure symbolic of Earthly values.

I had never heard of this person until I looke him up on the internet. From what I have just read he was a satanist. Apparently he was a forerunner for Satan. Actually I think he was just a confused carnie. LOL

Anton Szandor LaVey (1930—1997) was the founder of the Church of Satan, the first organized church in modern times promulgating a religious philosophy championing Satan as the symbol of personal freedom and individualism.

Anton LaVey wass an innovator who didn't always 'think it through to the end'. Thus the name of the 'church' he founded.
In some ways he was a man out of his time, whether that be time past or time future is up to the individual to decide.
If you look upon his writings and philosophy not as a religious exercise but rather as a study of the humanities it almost makes sense. Almost in that his knowledge was as limited as ours in many ways.
He was both brillant and psychotic. Fun even if you don't take him too seriously.
