Filipinos has derogatory self-deprecating expression - 'Only in the Philippines' - often used whenever something unusual pops somewhere.
Basically, only Filipinos who had traveled abroad and had seen how disciplined other nations could be, use the expression humorously as a way of criticizing the native land.
I do wonder if only Filipinos do that. We tend to condescend our fellow Filipinos in many ways than one.
This morning though, something colorful and exciting obscured my path. It was kinda difficult to overtake because it did occupy two lanes. I caught the picture at an intersection stop at the crossing.
The kiddie stuff amused me, for balloons made me happy when I was a child.
But then I thought, the danger it presents on the roads is real. And only in the Philippines could cab drivers get away with this....

That movie did come to mind and I actually did wish the balloons float the cab up, so I could speed thru.
'Only in America!' That really sounds. What exasperating scenes could possibly make Americans exclaim 'Only in America!'
But then again, come to think of it, only in America do we hear kids say the darndest things.
I think we aped the expression from you. We are copycats.

Thank you. It was a full stop on two major thoroughfares crossing. I was right behind the taxi cab.
I was amused at the inertia that caused the balloons to float forward an back when the taxi went on a halt.

That is a road hazard. I wonder if the passenger is a parent ready to surprise a child or an actual balloon vendor.

Indeed an accident hazard.
Didn't surmise about the passenger. Just wondered why the balloons were inflated before transport.

I like balloons most especially when the scene includes a child or children holding balloons. I find it amusing watching the expression of a child's face when a balloon escapes and floats high up into the air.
A lesson about holding it tight or losing it and letting go. Whichever, it's a simple lesson that can affect a child early on.
I did wish the balloons did carry that cab up also. me.

That's a popular saying used for the same reason. People will say only in insirt country, city, state.... when they want to slam themselves.
