CBS Sunday Morning's story on Hazing (chiefly in College Fraternities) paints it as a barbaric practice that belittles the Greek System (according to the North American Interfraternity Conference's president). http://www.cbsnews.com/news/grieving-parents-tell-the-stories-of-children-lost-to-hazing/ While I do agree that it's unfortunate (as such deaths usually are) & -that pledging a fraternity should not be 'something dangerous,' I want to talk about a couple facts: 1) I'm pretty-sure the hazing process isn't a nationally mandated thing---that each house's hazing practices are chosen-and/or-continued by each individual house's residing leaders. (I don't know---the closest I ever got was 'sleeping on the couch in the fraternity basement with loud music playing' ... which set off my tinnitus and which didn't let me pledge anyway (or I couldn't/decided-not-to pledge, since I ... I wasn't/am-not quite ready to live with "people").) 2) The examples CBS Sunday Morning mentioned were pretty-much just 'kids being drunk and foolish': one guy drank about 1500% more than the human body can take, thought he would "sleep it off," and died in his sleep; the other one got way too drunk, fell down the stairs, and the other frat-boys didn't call emergency-medical. (You can probably find out more about those cases at the "CBS Sunday Morning"-link, if you want to see whether the house-'captain's paid fully for the deaths they allowed.) Have you gone through any fraternity- or military- or 'any other organization'-hazing?

The hazing process never seemed worth it to me just to be part of a Frat.
