Yes I did it again. My elderly neighbor is having a hard time. Was talking to him earlier. His grandson had his prom over the weekend. A very happy time for his family.
But, his wife is not here to enjoy the happiness that is going on. He said it was such an empty feeling not having her by his side during the event. He lost her three years ago to cancer. They were married over 50 years.
They only have one grandson and they had a very special bond. I remember his wife would take care of him after school until his mother got home from work. I was at her house many times when he got off the bus. Happy times.
I came home, wiped the tears, and started baking. Time for another peach cobbler. His favorite.
Just delivered it to him. He was still a little teary eyed but smiling just the same. He did not know what to say. I told him no words were required.

I can smell and taste this picture. What a thoughtful gesture. I am sure your gifts bring him a little closer to those memories he treasures so much.

@CarolDM Peach Cobbler makes me think of nice weather and porch sitting. Sounds like the perfect combination.

@CarolDM good neighbors stand and listen. Great neighbors go in and make something meant to help that person feel better.

You have such a generous heart Carol. I'm sure your neighbor enjoyed and appreciated your peach cobbler even if it was through teary eyes. Losing loved ones always pulls at the heartstrings no matter how much time has passed.

I'm glad you were able to give your neighbor a smile. I can't imagine what it would be like to lose my husband since we've been married 50 years. I can certainly understand that he is lonely.

You are so kind to say that Dena. I truly put myself in other's shoes. I have felt so much pain in my life. I suppose that is why. When I see his eyes tear up, I feel helpless, like it is up to me to help. My mother was like that. She always put others ahed of her. Thank you, I do feel sorry for him.
